ਜੂਨ ੧੬ (੨ ਹਾੜ) - ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਦਿਵਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ
* Fifth Sikh Guru (1563 - 1606).
* Led Sikhism for a quarter of a century.
* Completed the construction of Darbar Sahib.
* Compiled the Adi Granth, the first edition of The Guru Granth Sahib ji, and installed it in the Darbar Sahib.
* Guru Arjan was arrested by the Mughal Emperor Jahangir.
* Guru ji refused to convert to Islam and was tortured and executed in 1606 CE.

A systemic attack on Amritsar, Akal Takht, Darbar Sahib and other Gurdwaras across Punjab by the Indian military -
killed thousands of innocent civilians trapped inside, as they were there to observe Guru Arjan Sahib's martyrdom anniversary, on June 3rd, 1984.

Sikh Family Center stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, especially in light of the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery.

We call on Sikh parents to talk to their children about race. Here are some points to keep in mind (1):

- Don't shush or shut them down if they mention race.
- Don't wait for kids to bring it up.
- Be proactive, helping them build a positive awareness of diversity.
- When a child experiences prejudice, grown-ups need to both address the feelings and fight the prejudices.
- You don't have to avoid topics like slavery or the Holocaust. Instead, give the facts and focus on resistance and allies.

ਮਈ ੨੩ (੯ ਜੇਠ) - ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰ ਦਾਸ ਜੀ

Sri Guru Amardas (23 May 1479 - 16 September 1574)
-Third of the Ten Gurus of Sikhism and became Guru at the age of 73
-He was a shopkeeper and lived in a village called Basarke which is near Amritsar
-He was married to Mata Mansa Devi and they had four children

Guru ji's contributions to the people of the world

First Pangat then Sangat
Visitors to Gurdwaras first take Langar (Free Blessed Food) together before seeing the Guru

He further abolished the Caste System
Guru lifted the status of women and gave them equality with men. He prohibited ‘Sati’ (the dying of the wife on her husband's funeral pyre),’Parrda’ (veil to cover the face), etc.

Established Manjis
An administration system for management of the increasing size of the Sikh congregations

Anand Sahib
One of the Five Banis recited daily by devout Sikhs

Established the city of Goindval
on the banks of river Bias in 1552 A.D

Sri Guru Granth Sahib
