Seeds distributed by Soils Permaculture Lebanon to at least 25 individuals mainly from Saidoun and the neighboring villages. And we also distributed to Nohye El Ard community garden, and Wahat Al Farah educational garden. So lovely to see all these pics of the seeds divided in to lots of little packets to share with the community. https://www.soils-permaculture-lebanon.com

Annab Season has arrived, and they are SO DARN GOOD.
β€œ 'Annab', Also know as 'jujube' is a wonder fruit! The fruit and its seeds are used in ancient Persian, Chinese and Korean traditional medicine, where they are believed to alleviate stress. Jujube has traditionally been used for anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-ulcer, anti-inflammatory purposes. It is also believed to have sedative, antispastic, antifertility/contraception, hypotensive and antinephritic, cardiotonic, antioxidant, immunostimulant, and wound healing properties! A controlled clinical trial found the fruit helpful for chronic constipation. In another clinical trial, jujube (Annab) was proved to be effective against neonatal jaundice. In Persian traditional medicine it is used in combination with other herbal medicines to treat colds, flu and coughing. Research suggests jujube fruit has neuroprotective properties. The fruit, being mucilaginous, is very soothing to the throat and concoctions of jujube have often been used in pharmacy to treat sore throats. β€œ From PersianBasket.com

THE SEEDS MADE IT …………… THEY ARE HERE :)

After a whole year, the Seeds are finally in Lebanon :) - ( I tried many different ways to ship them here but the variety was too much and I could not get a licence)- so they had to wait for me to pick them up- I traveled back with 40kg of seeds packed into 2 suite cases. As I packed them the love I felt opening all the cards and packages was tangible, I am SO delighted to finally have them all here………… now for them to find their people. DM me if you want seeds we are putting them into a massive list - there are 100’s of variety’s. I am especially interested to find some people willing to seed save so that we can increase the diversity of plans here in Lebanon.

Welcome HOME seeds, may you flourish here.

Azule, I don't know how you inspired this overflow of generosity, but THANK YOU and Halla, thank you for sponsoring the shipment.

The seeds are finding home
Yesterday was a super blessed day - the team (all of us that are living and working here in Lebanon on various projects to support and raise ) All traveled to - the most GLORIOUS Valley I have met in Lebanon. The Site has been in a state of great turmoil over the past 7 years as the world bank had agreed funding for a huge dam that would have flooded the entire place-
Hundred of local individuals and farmers had to sell their land - But there was a group of people determined NOT to allow this, including the amazing .Beany who led the protests to stop this environmental travesty. In 2020 they got news that the world bank pulled their funding and canceled the project πŸ™‚ )*&**)%*)@Β£@

However - the situation here with our government (or lack thereof) is so unstable and so stretched, nothing has happened to return the land to its original owners - SO the people have taken matters into their own hands and have reclaimed the land and are working it together, both the farmers and the locals.

The farmers are struggling as the economy here is so bad they can't afford help and seeds etc- they also are not yet versed in the Organic ways- Although they remain extremely open to it, and if they were supported would be delighted to learn and change - So we are putting out the call for people wanting to come and teach here, and to be involved in passing on these skills.

After discussion we all decided to distribute the seeds from the UK to all the individuals that do farm organically in the area, which .Beany will update us on as they reach the people. There was a LOT of gratitude as these things are now expensive here.

I gave about 80% of the 6kg I brought over - and when the next 60kg arrives I will take more.

There is a group of activists that live there in a barn protecting the area.

I also heard today from .dar that "It's the sacred valley of Esmond the godfather of medicine!” Which I can't wait to find out more about.

It felt like so the right place for the love to be shared. In gratitude to you all. Happy Spring.

The last of the seeds that are in the country got out this past week. So every thing will be in the ground. I was given a small piece of land by our house that we have been experimenting with. All have done very well. Am attempting some seed saving as are many of the recipients of the seeds. We are agee greater diversity is needed here. The bulk of them have gone to families but I grew have been placed with people pioneering organic here, wanting to increase diversity.

It feels appropriate that April 22nd, earth day 2021 I connected with a land cooperative in Bisri who will be taking a lot of the seeds and delivered seeds to Rita of https://www.soils-permaculture-lebanon.com - we meet @ The High Lama in Beirut, which felt like a fitting place for the hand over as they are carefull in their sourcing..

Grow well little seeds - thank you for your blessings xoxo πŸ’•

At last, after the year of corona, the Seeds to Lebanon are soon leaving Totnes (England) to the mountains of the land of milk and honey...Thank you all who sent seeds after the explosion in Beirut. May their journey be smooth, protected and blessed to the soil and people of Lebanon. Thank you Rowan for organising the next steps. I hope to join you in 2021 on the land of my ancestors.
