Hellequin Leather
Handcrafted leather goods
Latest commissions ready for delivery to their new owners this weekend. 2 quivers and 2 sets of arrows in medieval style with horn inserts and self nocks. The green quiver came out particularly nicely.
Just finished this handbag. Made me stretch myself and step a little out of my comfort zone using a vintage sewing machine as I hand stitch nearly all my projects. Although not perfect (in my eyes) I think it came out well!
Latest work on an angled hip quiver with integral pouch and matching belt.
Completed crossbow quiver. Poplar framework covered in boarskin and leather with a leather cover. Fun to make something different and involve some woodworking skills as well.
A new and slightly different project taking shape! An opportunity to work with boar skin as well which is definitely proving to be a challenge!
All set up for the reenactors market this weekend, just waiting for the crowds!
Productive day today making a start on the brass buckles. All fresh out of sand casting, just a few hours of fettling and finishing to go!
Scrip bags and 'harvest' bags ready for market. Just buckles to put on!
Archery bracers, bowhand gloves and tabs all ready, just need to put some buckles on the gloves and they're good to go!
Belt pouches. Simple round pouches through to more complex kidney pouches. A couple are awaiting buckles to be completed but all should be ready on time!
Been a bit quiet on here over the past few weeks but I've been busy getting stock ready for the reenactors market in march. Here's a taster of what will be available. More to follow!
Archery quivers of different sizes to suit those with shorter arrows.
Looking ahead to the big reenactors market in March (it'll be here before we know it!) and have made a start on building up stock. Spent yesterday and this morning cutting out pieces for pouches and archery quivers. All needs dyeing, assembling and hand stitching. Should keep me busy for a while!
So I finished the book last week and came out quite nicely in the end. Will be getting it to it's new owner soon!
A productive afternoon making brass furniture for the book I'm working on. Ready for fitting!
Starting a new project that is slightly different. I have been asked to make a hand bound medieval style book. So far the signatures are done and sewn to the cords and the spine rounded and backed. The cover boards are made so the next step is assembly, then it will have a leather cover put on and decorative brass corner protectors.
Finished a commission for sword belt and scabbard set today. All that is needed is a final fitting with the owner to get it all set up for them.
Progress getting made on another commission project.
Sword scabbard, suspension rig and swordbelt. Just the swordbelt to make! Cast brass buckles and handmade buckle plates give a nice finish!
The Xmas elves started a new project today. This should be an exciting project - a new sword scabbard with belt and suspension rig. Scabbard wet moulded and will need a few days to dry before stitching.
Finished and ready for their new owners! On to the next project...........😁
Getting there! Quivers almost assembled, just the collar pieces and belt loops to finish. Getting sore fingers from all the hand sewing though!
Starting work on some commissions I took at last weekends market. Quivers on the bench today, time to apply some dye!
All set up and ready for the weekend Artisans and Reenactors Market . Let's hope it's busy!
Finished in time for the Artisans and Reenactors Market this weekend!
It's coming along. End boards in place and latch half made. Next stage is the leather covering. Hoping to get this finished for the weekend
Started a new project this weekend. Making a girdle book, used by the clergy and aristocracy in the middle ages. Next job is to make the cover boards
These 2 archers quivers have designs found on extant examples of leather cases found in the Netherlands. These will both be available at the Artisans and Reenactors Market on 17th-19th November.
One for the medieval ladies, a girdle/belt kit that can be covered with fabric to match your kirtle or gown and then attach the buckle and strap end plate. Will be available at the Artisans and Reenactors Market in a couple of weeks time!
Something a bit different for all those bookworms out there (and a useful way to use all those small pieces of leather in the scraps box). Magnetic bookmarks in various colours.
Buckles finished with matching strap endplates ready to put on belt straps.
Busy couple of days casting and fettling buckles. Even produced a new design of buckle based on extant examples. Next job is to make buckle platework to mount them.
