I was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney DIsease (PKD) Christmas of 1997 however it wasn't until March 2021 when I began dialysis treatments. Throughout the years there were many complications including requiring a nephrectomy surgery and missing out on family events and holidays due to frequent hospital stays. The past year I have overcome some major health complications, surgeries, and side effect

Big thank you Gift of Life Donor Program for sharing Steve’s story! Gift of life is responsible for helping make transplants possible in the Tri state area and has been doing so since 1974. Take a moment to share their post and follow them to spread the word for donor awareness.
Steve Johnson is a doting grandfather, heavy machine mechanic and volunteer fireman. But Steve has had to put his life on hold while he awaits a life-saving kidney transplant.
Born with polycystic kidney disease, Steve started dialysis treatments more than two years ago. The treatments left the Darby resident exhausted and often unable to work, forcing him to step away from his duties as a volunteer fireman after 30 years of community service.
Steve’s family motivates him to keep fighting. He yearns for the day when he can once again fully enjoy life with his family and play with his grandson.
There are more than 100,000 people like Steve waiting for a life-saving transplant. The majority are waiting for a kidney transplant.
Help give people like Steve a second chance at life. Sign up to become an organ donor today: www.donors1.org/register

Connor couldn’t have a bigger smile with having a rare moment with PopPop! Connor really wants PopPop to play! Praying this is the year PopPop gets a kidney and can play. Steve is missing out on a lot with this little guy. These are moments you can never get back ❤️

This is Jill, Founder & President of Delco Dawgs Rescue, Inc., speaking on behalf of Andrea Purcell Johnson and her family. Usually we post about animals, but this one is different. We are asking for you to please read and share.
Andrea is on our fundraising team at Delco Dawgs. Her 55-year-old husband, Steve, was born with PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease), which took his father’s life in his 40’s and Steve's brother has it as well. Unfortunately, Steve’s disease has progressed, and life is far from the same. For the past 2 years Steve spends 3 nights a week at a dialysis center hooked to a machine. Missing events and milestones he should be able to enjoy.
Without dialysis it’s projected he would have 6 months or less to live. By trade Steve is a heavy equipment mechanic, however he often misses work. His enjoyment includes playing with their grandson and being a volunteer firefighter serving our local community.
Steve is approved for a transplant and is on the waiting list with Thomas Jefferson Transplant Center. It’s projected he will be on the list for up to 8 years. To be a kidney donor, you need to be in generally good health. Routine tests are performed to determine the potential donor’s viability. Kidney donors go
on to live long healthy lives with one kidney. All costs incurred by the donor are covered by Medicare. Steve currently only has 1 kidney and it must be replaced.
The average recuperation time in the hospital is two to three days and two to three weeks at home for the donor.
More than anything, Steve wants to enjoy family and life and to be able to return to being a volunteer firefighter that he has done for 37 years.
Below is a link to a live donor website which has a video and written information. It is also where people can apply to donate online by clicking on the blue link that says “Living Donor Medical Assessment and Referral Form.” Once someone submits the form online, a donor nurse will reach out to them directly to review it and discuss the process. The website can be found at:
www.JeffersonHealth.org/LivingDonorForm

Steve and millions of others
unfortunately live with this every day. Please help raise awareness of this devastating disease! I hope one day there’s a cure!
Today on Valentine’s Day I wanted to take a minute and send a shout out for Donor Day! I am asking for everyone to please share this post and help raise awareness that Donation is greatly needed! While I pray this never happens to you, there could come a day you or your loved one could be faced with needing a donor to save your life or enhance it.
I am praying 2023 is Steve’s year to find a donor! If there is anyone that would like more information to possibly be tested for a match for Steve please reach out to me. Next month will be two years since dialysis started and our world turned upside down. Never take your life for granted. Each day you wake up and be grateful for another opportunity, and hold your loved ones close. ❤️
Happy Weekend! Komedy for a Kure was a phenomenal night! The outpouring of love and support from so many was overwhelming. It’s really difficult to put into words. Thank you does not seem like enough. But we’re saying it anyway… THANK YOU to our family, friends, various businesses and organizations and to complete strangers that gave support, love and donations. None of this would have been possible without all of you!
As some of you know, this year has been incredibly tough for Steve. He had 3 surgeries for skin cancer and in June he had a craniotomy for 2 aneurysms. All the while receiving dialysis treatments. His surgeon said when he went in to clip one of the aneurysms it was getting ready to rupture. If it had, Steve would not have survived. Komedy for a Kure was a fun night after such a tough year.
The journey continues with the hope of finding a living donor as this year ends and a new year starts.
Again THANK YOU! ❤️
