I made a recent visit to the Grotto Home for the Homeless to try and bring some Christmas Cheer to the residents and staff members of the facility with the help of my team, the Savahnna Grass. Growing up my mother consistently encouraged my siblings and I to share with others who were less privileged than we were. Her teachings continue to resonate with me today and I feel the need to share with those we sometimes overlook in society. I believe that I have been blessed in numerous ways and I should share those blessings with others. So that a little more cheer can be brought into their lives.

My team and I relieved the staff members from lunch duties for a day by providing and distributing packaged lunches to the residents and staff members. The food was prepared by Sandra Hill Yankey and my mother, my team and myself helped to package them for ease of distribution. The staff members helped us to hand out and feed some of the residents as some are unable to feed themselves.

The day was one filled with high spirits and cheer. Seeing the residents faces light up was so rewarding and gave me a sense of fulfilment. The word of God taught us that “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” which teaches that there is joy in the act of giving when it is done with pure motives. It is my hope that ventures like these inspire others to reach out to the facility to assist with their needs or to engage in similar acts charity.

The president of the facility, Mr. Ainsworth Irish, shared a brief history on the origin of the Grotto Home and its current state. Mr. Irish was a delightful host expressing his elation together with the Matron, Christmar St. John Ogebalugo, and the administrator, Angela Dewhurst.

I also brought Christmas goodies specifically for the staff members because I believe it is important to also recognize the people who work tirelessly to care for the residents and keep the facility in a proper state. The work that they do requires a lot of patience and I must commend them for those efforts.

This donation was made possible by the generous sponsorship of Green's Wholesale Co. Ltd., Discover Dominica Authority through the Dominica Festivals Committee Dominica Festivals, H.H.V Whitchurch & Co Ltd, National Bank of Dominica Ltd, Chairperson of the Commission for Roseau Vision & Parliamentary Representative for Roseau Central Hon. Melissa Poponne-Skerrit, and Jollys Pharmacy Ltd. Thank you for your invaluable contribution.

I would also like to extend thanks to the matron of the facility, Christmar St. John Ogebalugo, and Angela Dewhurst the administrator who helped to coordinate the proceedings of that day. The two of you make an amazing team along with the other members of staff. To my mother and the Savahnna Grass, thank you for your time and efforts, you guys rock!

I plan on revisiting the facility to donate additional supplies that I noticed were depleted during our visit such as PPEs, sanitization products and other toiletries. Individuals and organizations willing to donate to the Grotto Home for the Homeless may do so by contacting them on 448-8747 or 614-5382.

I do hope everyone enjoyed the holidays!

This book was created By Nadège Roach of KulchaKreationz who has an unmatched passion for Our Dominican Culture. This phenomenal young woman is a teacher, mother and Miss Wob Dwiyet 2010. She conceptualized this book for her son, to teach him about the different aspects of our culture and our beautiful island. Believing that other children should also have the same opportunities to learn about Dominica she decided to share this gift with the world. From this Kulcha Kidz was born; a subset of her main business, Kulcha Kreationz. Jenae Bell assisted with bringing the book to life by illustrating the images within text.

As Miss Dominica I believe that it is important to be educated about all the wonders of the Nature Isle to gain knowledge and appreciation of the things that are sacred to us. Every child deserves their own Kulcha Kidz Colouring and Activity Book. They are available at Jays Bookstore, Astaphans.

Books are also available online at http://thebp.site/242195

Don’t forget to like, share and follow her social media pages on Facebook and Instagram for more information.

A few of the little ones I was delighted to meet yesterday. They were so fun to interact with 😊

On Monday 9th November, 2020 I visited a Pre-K class at the Convent Preparatory School. A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a photo on social media of an art and craft creation featuring yours truly 😊 I was so touched to be the subject of this lovely piece done by the little ones so I decided to surprise them with a small token. To my surprise I was informed while there that I was their Class Hero for the month of October which was such a great honor and humbling experience.

My gift to the students was the Kulcha Kidz Colouring and Activity Book which was created by Local Entrepreneur Nadège M. Roach of Kulcha Kreationz. This venture was made possible through the kind sponsorship of Do It Center Dominica!Thank You for your generosity in funding my small but impactful gesture. Your willingness to support this venture speaks volumes of your social responsibility and I am beyond grateful for your contribution.

Special thanks is extended to Marva Williams, Monica Jacob, Lincoln Rivière and Nadège Roach for your assistance along the way.

This land is my HOME 🇩🇲 . Dominica is a true hidden gem where the people are just as beautiful as the lush green forests, the cascading waterfalls and our pristine water. I am so privileged to call this land my home ! We may be small but our people are mighty! Today we recognized flag day. 🇩🇲A day Dominicans can once again celebrate being Dominican! The flag is a true representation of what makes our little island unique, it is an important symbol that represents us as a nation. Every intricate detail symbolizes an aspect of Dominica . For this, I am proud to be Dominican, to be a part of a resilient people and a true example of the beauty of Dominica 🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲 . Happy Flag day!
