Born of violence documentary
Bringing to the fore the stories that so often go untold- those of children conceived through sexual
ONLINE PREMIERE this Wednesday 6th July 2022 at 7PM:
What is it like coming to terms with the violent nature of your own conception? In Philip James McGoldrick’s deeply personal short, a child conceived through sexual violence is entangled in a bittersweet dance of acceptance and rejection with his mother. Born of Violence explores a complex question with sensitivity, drawing intimately on the experience of McGoldrick, who himself has similar experiences. The dance depicts the inescapable traumas experienced by both mother and child, and a yearning to find resolve from hidden grief.
These themes are powerfully and humanely portrayed by performers Ezi Ogbonna and Modest Mulenga, bringing to life the visceral choreography of Lea Oroz. ‘Born Of Violence’ is shot on 35mm, with cinematography by Miles Ridgway.
Philip James McGoldrick is an award-winning filmmaker and writer, whose previous work includes the Berlinale Crystal Bear nominated short ‘Siemiany'. The ‘Born of Violence' project intends to raise awareness around a global campaign to secure more rights for children born from sexual violence, as well as a forthcoming documentary directed by McGoldrick on the subject matter.
