Jonathan Hibberts for Stoke-on-Trent Central

I want to use the skills I have acquired to transform Stoke.

I love Stoke-on-Trent: I grew up in Stoke, the people face many challenges, and I know from my own personal experience that opportunities are (incredibly unfairly) much more limited.

A huge thank you to all of those who supported me: and have passed on comments subsequently. I hear you (I hear your concerns)! I met some wonderful people on the doorstep - the heart of Stoke-on-Trent beats strongly, cares deeply, and shares generously. It's really quite moving. Keep the faith, change is coming.

EDUCATION: Stoke-on-Trent has invested less in each child with additional needs than many other authorities. But the cost of support is the same: without the support kids fail and disrupt.

The difference is often made up from the school's own budget.

This is one reason why some school's underperform: and our teachers are stressed and angry

It was an honour to meet and discuss the work of Lou Macari and the Macari Centre. It is remarkable how much "heavy lifting" community groups and charities are doing. It is also interesting to hear what Lou thinks are the underlying issues. Collaboration across the city with these key organisations is critical. Thank you Lou.

It was great to be on the doorsteps with people from across the city (north, south and central).

I am delighted to have been selected for support by Unite, working together to pursue better pay and working conditions.

The bus service in Stoke-on-Trent needs to change - and so I have been talking to the Shadow Transport Secretary, Louise Haigh. It is unacceptable that off-peak travel is so limited - why can't you get a bus from Hanley to Dividy Road after 7:15pm (or Trent Vale or Abbey Hulton for that matter). Some people are effectively forced to live under a curfew. I would seek franchise rights (like the metro mayors).

The Portland Estate – a family home I stayed at regularly: which raises interesting questions (and ideas) regarding our housing and communities. We need to improve existing housing stock (to EPC-C) where feasible. This would help the cost of living, the environment, and to create jobs. We also need new green housing.

Nothing like a good cuppa in appropriately labelled local mugs (local mugs in more ways than one!) It has been great to introduce my wife to many of you this weekend (she is a credit to the NHS).

Best wishes to those celebrating Eid. It was incredibly to see in person the celebrations in Hanley park and well done to one of the organisers, local teacher Mohammed Nazakit https://fb.watch/e97rl9xHDI/ He is a lovely guy - and I'm pleased it went so smoothly - the stress is over now Mohammed. We both recognised each other as we met when I recorded my introduction video in Hanley - if you look carefully you'll see he makes a cameo appearance in my video!! I wonder who will be first to spot when he appears - https://fb.watch/eab5qc1qLA/

If anyone in Stoke-on-Trent Central has not received my leaflet then please let me know. Here is an electronic version. I hope to be able to discuss the issues face to face.

Last week I met with Jonathan Reynolds, Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. We discussed the needs of Stoke-on-Trent - just the type of person we need to be collaborating with. With a Labour Government, a Labour MP, and a Labour Council there's much we could achieve for Stoke-on-Trent.

I wanted to explain why I seek selection, speaking from the battered heart of Stoke Central. This video is a bit lively! Please LIKE and SHARE this (and LIKE my page - so that you receive updates).

It was great to be out with Sam Hackney (and Gareth and Ruth) - we nearly had enough candidates to hold a mini hustings!

I'm delighted to have been shortlisted. I would love to discuss your concerns and my ideas: please LIKE this page so that you receive updates - although I hope to meet you - but please contact me. Exciting times!

Great to out in Trent Vale and Oakhill with Jim Bradbury (Shippo, Celia and Debbie were also with us)

Thank you to the members of the branches who voted for me, and to WEST BRANCH for nominating me. This is a great encouragement as I go into the shorlisting phase.

It was great to hear from Kier Starmer at today’s “fireside chat” (although no fire in sight!) It is only through politics that we can bring about change. Exciting times ahead!

Wakefield by-election result: Labour defeat Tories to retake seat 24/06/2022

Great to see Labour retake Wakefield with a thumping 12.7% swing from Conservative to Labour. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-61896693

Wakefield by-election result: Labour defeat Tories to retake seat Simon Lightwood says his win ties in with voters in the city needing a "fresh start".

There are too many boarded up properties in Stoke-on-Trent: we need investment. The conservatives abolished Regional Development Agencies like Advantage West Midlands

I am a seasoned campaigner for Labour: rain or shine!

Hi, my name is Jonathan and I am seeking selection as Labour's parliamentary candidate for Stoke Central: I love Stoke-on-Trent: I grew up in Stoke, the people face many challenges and I know from my own personal experiences that opportunities are (incredibly unfairly) much more limited. I want to use the skills I have acquired to transform Stoke.

If you are in a local Labour Branch of Stoke Central then please nominate me this weekend so that the CLP have a number of people to choose from at the forthcoming Hustings.
