We missed you last month! This month's poets are SO MUCH FIRE GAHHHH! Cyn Jones and 36 Chambers Of Poetry: we can't wait!!!
We are moving to a quarterly schedule from here on. Our next event will be in November! So set a reminder in your calendars! Let's gather while the gathering's good.
Announcing a few things here...
First, Listen To Your Skin: Monthly Erotic Reading Series will take a break in July to give your hosts Stina and Evey time to launch a new business venture: The Sexploratorium, a center for pleasure-focused and innovative s*x education. Read on for news of a monthly face-to-face Listen To Your Skin!
We'll miss you and will be back on the last Sunday of August!
Secondly, we wanna tell you a little more about this thing we're taking a break for, The Sexploratorium!
The Sexploratorium's classes will include a mix of academic and embodied approaches, with a range of "mild" to "spicy" classes. We'll have a range of rotating "basics" and also a wide variety of specialty classes. Every Friday and Saturday evening, we'll host social activities where we'll learn in an engaging and interactive way. (In August, we'll have intro to kink and speed-dating for pans*xuals, etc.) Each Sunday, the focus will be on sacred s*xuality and sensual movement. (In August, this is ecstatic dance and ta***ic yoga, etc.).
Of note for followers of LTYS: every third Friday, The Sexploratorium will host a writing workshop with a short open mic. This will be the in-person version of Listen To Your Skin that so many of us have wanted!
If you've ever wanted to be with us in the flesh, or if you crave longer writing activities, consider being part of what will surely become a vibrant and ongoing writing group!
Go follow *xploratoriumdenver on IG or our page, Sexploratorium, to stay abreast of all our course offerings and events!
Thirdly, we have our location, people!
1800 S Broadway, Denver! If you're Denver-local, see you there August 5th for our grand opening! [Soft open August 1.]
Is this reality!? We hoped we'd end up on Colfax or S Broadway. Dreams really do come true!
Finally, we are looking for a team of 6 or 7 volunteers to help us be ready to open by August 1. If you believe in our mission and you're interested in helping out, the incentive is 2 free classes per month (you can gift them to friends as well as use them yourself) for our first year of business (and we'll cover drinks and food while we're working). Dm for more info and to volunteer!
Nazelah Jamison performing a fabulous set at the February '23 Listen To Your Skin: Monthly Erotic Reading Series. I've been a fangirl of Naz's since the early aughts. Click and watch to find out why. Much spirit, many finely-worded truth bombs...
Ralonda N Simmons has been a favorite of mine ever since we were on opposing teams at the infamous Punketry vs. Jazzetry a few years ago. Are you ready for her November '22 performance with us? She's a force.
Racine Frank at the January '23 Listen To Your Skin: Monthly Erotic Reading Series. Such a delightful set here! Enjoy!
We were so happy to host Jessica Chernila at the January '23 Listen To Your Skin: Monthly Erotic Reading Series. Known also as Mir I Am, she hosts the Community Is The Cure open mic at the new Gypsy House in Denver, Co., which is a sacred community space.
Emily Kagan-Trenchard at the October '22 Listen To Your Skin: Monthly Erotic Reading Series. She digs really deep in this set, y'all. 10 of 10 recommend watching with all your haunted memories and a cup of your favorite tea by a rain-slicked window, if you can manage it.
Besties Kona Morris and Lena Rogin tag team it at the July '22 Listen To Your Skin: Monthly Erotic Reading Series. Lots of energy and fun in this one, y'all.
Byron Aspaas at the October '22 Listen To Your Skin: Monthly Erotic Reading Series. I think he sweetly blushes at least 4x, which is enough by itself to merit you clicking on this link and playing it through, even if his work weren't totally FIRE!
Lisbeth Coiman & Ln Webre at the September '22 Listen To Your Skin: Monthly Erotic Reading Series. Both of these writers have such densely metaphoric natural imagery, capaciously collapsing meaning and moment into artifacts of sensual intelligence, hunger, lust, and the passage of time.
Suzi Q. Smith at the June '22 Listen To Your Skin: Monthly Erotic Reading Series.
What would we do without Confidence Omenai? We don't know and we don't want to find out. Especially if you've never heard Confidence deliver her work, you're gonna wanna click on this and witness. But I was there, and I can't wait to re-watch, so...
We couldn't get enough of Suzi Q. Smith, so she graciously gave us an incredible encore!
Hey, hey, y'all! We have created an IG solely for Listen To Your Skin: Monthly Erotic Reading Series. It's
Please go follow us there, and share our upcoming event as widely as you dare! Link to register is in the bio line.
Stina used to advertise on Insta on her personal account, but she's changed her main account's setting to private, so nobody can share content from there anymore. I just don't want anyone to miss out on this witchy, wonderful, literary space we get to share every month.
Abundance. As in, ripening, fullness. As in, prosperity, plenty, plethora, profusion. As in the bearing of fruit, fruit in the hand, juice on the skin. How do we cultivate the body's abundance? What is erotic wealth, ample quantity or rich in quality, as well? Do we have a scarcity mentality toward our s*x, or an abundance mentality? This month’s writing prompt: Write your body as the harvest. Roaming through memory, dreams, desire, your least considered erogenous zones, gather an offering to share.
We see s*x everywhere. Eggplants. Hot dogs. Orchids. Peaches. Ci**rs. We also project our s*xual desires and biases onto people. We feel we know them, and should have a say in their lives. We ask that they live in glass houses. Sometimes, we throw stones. We pedastalize them, and gawk when they fall. We want them to embody all that we wish we could be if only we were more bold.
Join us the last Sunday in August when we'll feature James Coats and Confidence Omenai. Our theme is "manifest." As in, make clear, make happen. As in, reveal, make real. The B**M community has furthered our understanding of consent, how to make our no’s and our hell-yeses evident. Marginalized groups and allies work to manifest a society that accepts and respects everyone. Our bodies manifest pleasure and healing and communion. Do we allow s*x to just… sort of happen to us, or do we manifest by marrying willpower to our erotic desires? This month’s writing prompt: If your body wrote a manifesto, what goals would it list? What rules for engagement would it contain?
