Types of Plate Boundaries

02/10/2021

Convergent Boundaries are also called DESTRUCTIVE BOUNDARIES because crusts are destroyed at the SUBDUCTION ZONES. On the other hand, Divergent Boundaries are called CONSTRUCTIVE BOUNDARIES because New crusts are formed as magma oozes out of the cracks at the two separating plates. Transform Boundaries are called CONSERVATIVE BOUNDARIES because no crusts are destroyed or created.

The map of plate boundaries divides the earth into tectonic plates. This is in accordance to the THEORY OF PLATE TECTONICS which states that THE EARTH'S LITHOSPHERE (crust+uppermost mantle, the rigid solid layer of the earth) IS DIVIDED INTO/BROKEN INTO PLATES.THIS PLATES FLOATS ON TOP OF THE ASTHENOSPHERE (consists of molten rocks or magma, molten plastic like layer.of the earth under the lithosphere) WHICH CAUSES IT TO.MOVE AT A.PACE OF 1-2 CM. PER YEAR.
