IMPORTANT SAFETY RULES TO FOLLOW WHEN CONTACTING A PERSON INCARCERATED:

Step 1. Look up on the IL DOC website inmate search to learn why the person is incarcerated and for how long. If you do not feel comfortable writing to them for any reason, find another person to write with. You must be 18 or over to write any prisoner on our FB page! If you are uncomfortable using your home address, use a PO BOX or an online mailbox service like JMAIL.

Step 2. Download the Connect Network App and add your desired person by selecting State: IL, Facility: IL Department of Corrections, Search Criteria: (Last name, First name or IDOC number). It costs 4$ for 20 credits (1 credit per message.)

Step 3. Do not send money and gifts to your prisoner pen pal. If they are asking or hinting around they are always broke or need something, they are most likely a scammer. Please report them immediately. If you wish to send anything to your pen pal at Christmas or birthdays, many people do and it is your choice what you do. Never do anything you feel uncomfortable with, only send in what is allowed and what you enjoy sending! Don’t feel pressured to do anything you don’t want to do! If a pen pal keeps asking after you’ve said no, stop speaking with them.

Step 4. Have fun and be you! The page is about friends, possibly flirting and having a great time - our friends incarcerated are not all seeking mentors or marriages. Many are seeking wonderful, fun-loving people like you from all over the world and can’t wait to hear about you and learn about your life! It’s great to brighten up the day of people in a dark place! The more honest and upfront you are, the better an experience you will have when writing to people incarcerated! Please remember we are a pen pal service, so writing to multiple people on both sides often takes place!
