How many of you can admit to having ever thought “Why is she being like that”, whether it be about
your mother, sister, a partner or even a friend, can you relate to times when you thought they were
being unnecessarily “moody” or “irritable” or “too quiet”?
Growing up in a female dominant household, I can remember the times when these thoughts
crossed my mind, and even as a grown adult I find myself presented with scenario’s that lead me to
ask this question.
Of course, there are so many reasons as to why somebody might be behaving in a certain way, and
as human beings, we learn understanding and empathy for others and whatever challenges they
may face, however, one thing that we often don’t learn, is how we can best navigate menopause.
Menopause is something that affects all women, and in turn, can indirectly affect the family, friends
and even the colleagues of those who are going through it.
Looking back at my life, and having discussed this recently with other male friends and colleagues, I
have found that there has generally been a lack of discussion on menopause, and this has led to an
absence of knowledge and understanding. Also, of note, is that many females I spoke to also felt that
there was a lack of education for them as they grew into women.
As children we had had s*x education, and lessons in our personal health and social care, and were
given an understanding of menstruation.
Thinking about this now, I personally feel that having a discussion about the menopause would also
have been of benefit to myself, and to the women I know who have been and are going through it.
I am not entirely sure why we are so lacking in dialogue surrounding such an important topic, but
one thing which I am sure of, is that having a broader understanding of the menopause would not
only help all women to prepare and navigate this often difficult time, educating a broader society
would give us a better understanding, and in turn be able to be emphatic and better support.
So… Lets talk Menopause!!!

Introducing my second guest on The Frost Report episode 9 where we talk about the menopause

Andrea Swan- Had been having some counselling with Diane and mentioned hot flushes and so the symptom checker came out and she was shocked to discover how many she had.
She went to the GP armed with lots of information from Diane and got the treatment she wanted and then began to think how many of her friends must be totally unaware of the full range of menopause symptoms.
She asked Diane if she would do a talk at her home and invited around 30 women to come along and saw how many lightbulbs went off around the room as they realised that so many of the issues they had been experiencing were related to the menopause.
After another of these sessions she asked Diane if she could volunteer on the support group as a moderator - at that time there were around 2000 members. After a short while she became the office manager for Menopause Support CIC and supports Diane with her campaigning and raising awareness along with their colleague Steph.
They also have 4 volunteer moderators on the support group.

As a CIC (Community Interest Company) we provide training and awareness sessions for businesses and organisations and also 1-1 menopause advice consultations for women who aren't getting the correct advice and treatment from their GPs (who may not have trained in menopause or are following out of date guidance) but can't afford to see a private menopause specialist or wait for an appointment with an NHS one as the waiting time in some areas is now over 12 months.
All profits are put towards producing and providing free resources for women and their families/colleagues about menopause.
Diane regularly speaks on the subject of Menopause on BBC breakfast, This Morning, Loose Women, BBC news, ITV news, local radio. Colin Murray Radio 5Live and contributes to articles in the media and menopause books and is currently writing her own book.

Introducing my first guest for The Frost Report episode 9 where we talk about the menopause
Diane Danzebrink- Founder of Menopause Support and the campaign- Diane started Menopause Support from her kitchen table after her terrible experience of surgical menopause in 2012 which almost led her to take her own life. Once she had been given the right advice and information on how to manage her symptoms (which were mainly psychological) and was feeling stronger she decided to see if she was the only one experiencing this and started to search online where she found hundreds of women all desperately trying to work out what was wrong with them. Diane did some professional nurse training in menopause with the British Menopause Society so she could expand her psychotherapy services and began counselling menopausal women from 2015.
She started the Facebook group The Menopause Support Network in 2017 and this now has over 31,000 members and is focussed on providing evidence based, factual information and support.
In 2018 she launched the campaign in Westminster and within 7 months one of the aims to have menopause added to the school curriculum in England was achieved. We continue to push for this to be rolled out across the UK.
This year we were instrumental in achieving one of the other campaign aims of ensuring mandatory GP education on menopause to all new medical students from 2024/25 as part of the new Womens Health Strategy.
The third aim for mandatory menopause support in the workplace seems to be happening organically just from the increased awareness that has been raised.
