"The Simultaneous Interpretation of Numbers: Old Problems and New Technologies"

We have an exciting new training opportunity starting next Tuesday!
Francesca will be teaching a workshop on numbers (of course 😉 ) for the Italian Association of Interpreters and Translators AITI. The novelty is the new module on the potential benefits and pitfalls in using new technologies (such as ASR and AI-powered computer-assisted interpreting tools) to interpret numbers.

Like all of our teaching, this workshop is research-based: Francesca has spent the past year studying the way conference interpreters use AI-based CAI tools during the SI process. In the workshop, she will zoom in on recurring challenges specific to numbers and help participants develop effective solutions.

U petak, 7. svibnja 2021. HDKP je u suradnji s tvrtkom Interpremy - My interpreting academy i njihovom suosnivačicom i predavačicom Biancom Prandi organizirao radionicu pod nazivom „Uvod u InterpretBank“.

Bianca, čija je tvrtka službeni partner InterpretBanka za edukaciju, sudionicima je prvo približila pojam i značaj alata za potpomognuto usmeno prevođenje i objasnila koji su njihovi glavni ciljevi. Potom su sudionici s pomoću demonstracijske verzije InterpretBanka imali priliku isprobati glavne funkcije ovog vjerojatno najpoznatijeg CAI alata. Tako su na vrlo praktičan način upoznali sve prednosti InterpretBanka za pripremu i memoriranje terminologije, ali i potragu za terminima tijekom samog rada u kabini.

Posebno nam je drago da su nam se na ovoj radionici pridružili i kolegice i kolege iz slovenskog udruženja konferencijskih prevoditelja ZKTS-a (Združenje konferenčnih tolmačev Slovenije) s kojima se uvijek rado družimo. Sudeći prema prvim povratnim informacijama radionica je bila vrlo korisna i informativna. InterpretBank - Software for Conference Interpreters

It was good to be back in school, and in Germany, over the past couple of weeks. Francesca taught her number workshops again for students of Johannes-Gutenberg University of Mainz / Germersheim, the university she graduated from first developed her number research!⁠

Our numbers workshops over the past months gave us the chance to listen to the opinions and requests of .

Most agree that improving your interpretation of requires extensive and expressed the need for a regular appointment to focus on this common problem.

Your requests inspired this first edition of our live online 5-week training on strategies in the interpretation of numbers!

are the problem trigger par excellence. In the workshop, we analysed the causes of error in the interpretation of numbers and discussed training methods as well as interpreting strategies to cope with the difficulty.

Overall, the workshop was very well received! Given the interest in the topic, we are going to increase the frequency and variety of our number-related workshops.

With yesterday's AIIC workshop, interpremy reached yet another milestone and contributed to enhancing interpreters' preparation through:
✔️ A systematic methodology to prepare on numbers that makes it possible to overcome this common stumbling block;
✔️ An overview of available CAI tools, how they make our preparation more efficient and guidance on how to select the right one for our individual needs.
Thank you to all participants who made our workshop a success. We are very glad about your active engagement, enthusiastic feedback and the food for thought you provided us with. We are looking forward to implementing your ideas in the next workshops and our on-demand courses!

In interpreting, preparation is key! We have organised this online workshop with AIIC Interpreting the World Germany to reflect on methodological aspects of preparation and how to enhance its effectiveness and efficiency. We will do so by discussing two specific preparation-related topics: the use of CAI tools, as well as why and how to prepare on numbers. Get in touch at [email protected]

About one year ago, we presented for the first time to a large room of colleagues during the session of Germany. ⁠
We held a presentation based on the findings from our own research work. ⁠

Our contribution dealt with effective preparation and mainly addressed the following questions:⁠
▶️ What is an effective preparation methodology?⁠
▶️ Why and how to prepare on numbers -- the interpreters' dreaded archenemy? 😉
▶️ How can help us make our preparation more effective?⁠

The feedback was enthusiastic and we were invited to organise a comprehensive workshop on the topic.⁠
One year later ... here we go! Our workshop is coming in July. Stay tuned and meet us there!⁠
