Thorp WIHA Equestrian Team
The goal is to foster a continuous growth in the art of riding, handling, and training horses.
The Thorp WIHA Equestrian Team will be at it again! We have been asked when we will be offering oiling tack again. So the team decided during the first Circle-T Saddle Club Show! The team will be running the food stand all weekend and ALSO oiling tack!
With a growing interest in horses in our area we started an Equestrian Team in Thorp in 2022. Every year the season goes from August 15th through November 1st of each school year. This is our second year as a team. We practice once a week during the season after school at Hazel's Haven Ranch LLC. In 2022 we were Reserve Champion District 6 Division B and qualified for state!
This organization is to promote continuous growth in programs fostering horsemanship education, sponsor activities to encourage interscholastic participation, and have cooperative adult supervised
leadership (coaching) for all students in grades 6 through 12 who want to participate and meets the association rules and regulations.
The goal of the equestrian team is to foster a continuous growth in the art of riding, handling, and training horses. WIHA provides an equestrian competition structure where students compete as a team not individually. Teams belong to one of 5 districts within the state. There are 4 different divisions (A, B, C, D) depending on how many students you have on your team. We are competing in Division B, District 6. The goal of WIHA is to get as many schools as possible to recognize this as a sport and allow school-related recognition to help foster school engagement and enjoyment. WIHA also has a Scholarship program that helps our outgoing Seniors move on to higher level education.
