Armenia was not part of our initial route. While in Georgia waiting for the eastern borders to open we decided to cross its south border for a few days. We were quickly struck by a poorer and post industrial and partially abandoned landscape, but we gradually fell into the charm of dry crops golden valleys and deep canyons full of life.

We could feel the Armenian people retain the bitterness of recent wars and its genocide which revives the memories of centuries of conflict that have taken from these people the vast majority of its former territory. Even the iconic and sacred Ararat mountain that appears on most Armenian coats of arms and stories has been in Turkey for a while. Nevertheless the Armenian culture seem to have resisted. Exchanging with Armenians has been for us, almost every time, to feel the sadness or the resentment of these continuous conflicts, but also the pride of a well-established culture.

We left the country happy with our experience and in awe of their resilience.

Turkey is the land of soup, barbecue and handmade bread. A land of welcoming, smiling and kind people, no matter where you come from or what your beliefs are. In Turkey the national flag is in every street corner, on top of every hill, as Turkish people are very proud of their nation, and to remind you that despite divisions there is only one Turkey.

After several weeks of thinking we chose an old Defender 130 300 TDI as our home and transportation mean for this project.

With the precious help from our friends, we were able to do it all on our own!
A big thank to our families and friends who helped us and came to give us a hand !
