Things to avoid in Ramzan:
1. Drinking
Avoid Milkshakes made with syrups etc on a daily basis
- Why: It contains high amounts of sugar, additives and colourants
- Solution: If you have to, drink it twice a week maximum
2. Drinking large amounts of water at iftaar time
- Why: Filling the stomach with water is more strenuous to it than with food.
- Solution: have a few sips at iftaar then a glass after every two hours.
3. Exercising directly after iftaar.
- Why: the body's blood flow is concentrated around the stomach at that time.
- Solution: Exercise after two hours of eating to ease digestion.
4. Chewing and swallowing food fast.
- Why: chewing food slowly can speed up digestion and help maintain your weight
5. Having dessert directly after iftaar
- Why: they make you drowsy and sleepy
- Solution: leave at least a two hour gap between iftaar and dessert to stay fresh and awake for ishaa and taraweeh prayers
6. Consuming foods with high amounts of sodium
- Why: Sodium triggers thirst through out the fasting hours of the day
- Solution: instead, eat foods that are high in potassium, they retain water and supress your thirst.
# Bananas are high in potassium. A banana at Suhoor time can control your thirst level through out the day.

# Best sources of potassium for Suhoor time:
- bananas
- milk
- dates
- avocados
- dried peaches
- pistachios
- pumpkin
# Worst choices for Suhoor:
- biryani
- pizza
- fast food in general
- cheese
# Best choices for Suhoor:
- dates
- whole grain bread
- banana
# Drinking lots of water at suhoor is important, but not as much as drinking it through out your non-fasting hours.
Now worst and best food choices for Iftar. So, here we go.

🔵Worst choices:

1- Avoid Red meat directly after breaking fast.

-Why: It is heavier to digest after a long fast
-Solution : Meat should be used in second meal i.e. in dinner

2- Avoid foods with high glycemic load in short too much sugar and white flour.

-Why: because it gives an instant insulin spike that is not ideal after a long fast

-Solution : Break fast with drinks like salty lemonade as it will help to replenish the electrolyte easily rehydrating body without burden.

-Fried foods and excess simple carbohydrates
Why: It causes antidiuresis of potassium and sodium. It also causes bloating.
Solution: Bake the snacks instead of frying and use healthy ingredients replacements.

🔴Best food choices :

-Citrus drinks : Because citric acid promotes digestive enzymes to prepare body for refeed

-Bone broth: Its good to refeed on liquids before switching to solid food to ease the process for body. It also helps reshuttle nutrients in blood stream easily. Use cinnamon in it for more benefits.

-Fruits : During fast, liver gets rid of extra glycogen and that is perfect time to add fructose from fruits in body as it won't be converted to glycogen and later in fat at that point. It ll be easily digested providing energy boost.

- Some legumes, beans and grams : Use in fruit chat or salads because these are rich of nutrients, low in fat, moderate in protein and carb that makes them best choice for breaking fast.

🔹 Dinner :

Dinner should be a combination of meat + vegetables with 1 serving of complex carbohydrates like half whole wheat chapati

Why to prefer whole wheat chapati in Ramzan??

Wheat is rich in fiber. Fiber retains water so saves body from extreme dehydration and constipation due to fasting. It also helps regulate insulin in better way in body that protects from hypoglycemic shocks.
