Rev. Christian King for City Council
Christian. Community Leader. Wife. Non-Profit Founder. Former Neighborhood Association President
Hello all. Thanks again for all the support for the City Council Run. As I often said that if I did not win then the Lord had more work for me to do in the Collaborating on the Community for the Children.
Today, Wednesday, November 6th I called Council Waring to congratulate him. I also thanked him for his continued service. I also asked for a meeting to share of the concerns that you shared with me.
I truly thank the over 600 District 7 citizens who voted for me. Thank you for your trust and confidence in me. If there is any way that I can serve you, please, let me know.
ONE HOUR TO GO! WE CAN DO THIS! Please get in line by 7pm so you can make your voice heard!
Polls are open! Please go vote to save our community, ensure our childrens' future, and bring collaboration back to City Hall! I will serve you!
Vote TOMORROW - TUESDAY from 7am to 7pm. If you need help finding your precinct visit: https://info.scvotes.sc.gov/eng/voterinquiry/VoterInformationRequest.aspx?PageMode=VoterInfo
The great thing about canvassing is the wonderful new friends that I am making and the fantastic opportunity to learn from Elders who have so much history and knowledge and wisdom. Let me introduce Mr. Henry Geddis 95 years old. Very sharp and engaged. Someone else drives for him now. He is in a independent living community and does his own cooking, walks 5 miles every day. Retired from the the Cigar Factory after 40 years. Keeps in contact with many political leaders and is ready to VOTE for me Tuesday!
Thankful for the official endorsement of the Charleston City Paper! We must always remember where we started, and it can never be about the elected official - it must always be about the children and our community! Let's do this! !
Thank you to the Charleston City Paper! Let's work hard between now and November 5th so we can end the gridlock on City Council and bring back a collaborative government that works for our community and children! Spread the word!
Enjoyed being out with Best Friends of Lowcountry Transit this morning to meet Ride CARTA commuters! There is a lot of work to be done on CARTA and at the City level we should work to provide safe bus shelters and seating like the one pictured here. Downtown we had to sit on a dirty curb while waiting on the bus back to West Ashley. These are the types of things we learn by being out amongst our community, and the voice I will bring to City Hall.
I will be a leader on transit issues on City Council. No one should have to die before we take the steps necessary to ensure that folks are able to get around town safely without having to drive a car. I appreciate the opportunity to sit down with the Best Friends of Lowcountry Transit as I have with many community groups to discuss issues important to them. At the end of the day my vote on Council will be the vote that is best for our Community and our Children.
Christian King to Release 10 Transit Answers to Voters on Tuesday- 8 am Christian King, candidate for Charleston City Council, Dist 10 (West of the Ashley) will release her detailed answers to the 10 Transit Questions posed by Best Friends of Lowcountry Transit on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 8 am at the Bus Stop at Citadel Mall during a guided bus ride for Candidates conducted....
Was honored to be in the presence of greatness yesterday with Rev. Alma Dungee as Mayor John Tecklenburg and the City of Charleston named a community center in her honor. It is important that we show up for our City and its community leaders and I will do so as your City Councilwoman! Congratulations to Rev. Dungee!
Thank you to the Charleston Mercury for the endorsement! We can feel the momentum in Camp King! Helping others has been the focus of my life, and I look forward to bringing that spirit of community, collaboration and focus on our children to City Council. Please spread the word! Some of our signs have mysteriously disappeared from supporters' yards in the middle of the night. But don't worry we have plenty more! And remember yard signs don't vote - people do! Message us if you'd like a sign for your yard (no guarantees on how long it will last)!
Thank you to Shirley and Theo and the entire Washington family for the support! We are going to bring our community's focus to City Council!
Thank you to Shirley and Theo and the entire Washington family for the support! We are going to bring our community's focus to City Council!
Thankful for the acknowledgement of my strong stance on issues of Livability in our City! Anyone who has been paying attention knows we need to make some changes on City Council if we are going to work collaboratively to save our City, community and future for our children! On to victory!
We are City Council bound! Please Private Message us your address if you would like a sign or email [email protected]. Let's get the word out!
How long will a few members of City Council kick the can down the road? We need to rein in hotels and I would have supported final approval. The time for action is now! If you agree, join us. To change City Council we must change who serves!
Final vote for new Charleston hotel development rules deferred a second time New rules for hotel development in Charleston were one approval away from being adopted Tuesday, but City Council pushed the last vote forward for another two weeks.
Meet Laurel Walden, she shares in her own voice why she supports Rev. Christian King for Charleston City Council. Take a look and join the campaign!
Tonight I attended the Fix Flooding First! Forum, and once again my opponent was not present. This issue is the most important we face. If we don't sit down and listen to one another's ideas we will never reach solutions through collaboration to save our community for our children. It all begins with listening. As your City Councilwoman I will engage with you, collaborate with our stakeholders and work everyday to save our community for our families and children. Let's get to work!
Great meeting of the West Ashley Revitalization Commission last evening. It is important that our community have a seat at the table, and I look forward to serving on the Commission once elected as a collaborative, community engaged participant. Plan West Ashley Plan West Ashley will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of West Ashley's streets, neighborhoods, and public spaces. The Plan will set broad policies and identify specific actions aimed to enhance quality of life and protect the area’s historic, cultural and natural environment.
Today we remember the lives lost on 9/11/01 people that simply went to work that day - both first responders and those in the buildings - and those simply on planes headed to their destinations. Today we should also remember the spirit of community and collaboration that gripped our entire nation following that tragedy and how we all came together to declare a better and safer future for our children. Today, and everyday, we should strive to remember that spirit and to embody it in all that we do.
We are one of two races to watch according to this morning's editorial in The Post and Courier! Please make a contribution of whatever size you are able to help us today! $5 buys a yard sign, $15 a street worth of mail, $50 a radio ad, and $100 a paid canvasser shift! My message to columnist Gilbreth and others who are "feeling frustrated with Charleston City Council" is that there is something you can do about it! Get involved, and let's change our City Council for the better on November 5th!

Gilbreth column: Feeling frustrated with Charleston City Council Members of Charleston City Council are all public servants who put in a great deal of time, answer to a lot of people, listen to many complaints, get little validation
Had a great time sitting down and cutting up with Quintin Washington of "Quintin's Close-Ups"! We talk about a lot of the issues facing District 7 and our City.

Over the past few years, I have been concerned about the lack of connection and communication with our current city council member. I truly believe that anyone that runs for office should be invested in and focused on the greatest good for the community. I am not a politician. I am a community member who runs summer and after-school programs for our youth, a woman of faith who believes in service to others, a wife of 44 years and a former neighborhood association president. In short, I'm not a typical candidate for public office. But when I saw that no one was going to run against our current councilman, Keith Waring, I could not sit on the sidelines any longer because I feel our city council members should use communication and collaboration that sets a good example for our children. Attacks on the Mayor is not in the best interest of the City or our community.
I believe that the Mayor wants what is best for our community and the City at large, as evidenced by his policies, proposals, and practices. It's time to bring our focus back to the things that really matter to us, the citizens of District Seven - and that's why I'm running. To make sure we have an advocate who will fight overdevelopment and gentrification. To make sure we have advocate who will stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves, particularly our children and seniors. And to make sure we have an advocate who will work with others to make real progress. Put simply, I am running to protect our community, to put our children and seniors first, and to work in collaboration with our Mayor and other Council members to make all our citizens' lives better. I hope you will stand with me.
If you stand with me, please make a donation of any size - as the incumbent is well funded and we will need funds to win: https://revkingforcouncil.com/

Let's rally for Rev. Christian King for City Council | Rally.org My story is like many in Charleston. I was born, raised and educated in Georgia. I attended public schools and graduated magna cm laude from Albany State University, where I met my future husband, who was on active duty with the US Navy. In 1978 we were transferred to Charleston, and I’ve been he...
