Julie Whitfield Art
Colorado artist
Like trying on a new dress and asking how it looks, I decided to try on some new art and I want know what you think!
Each piece is watercolor/oil pastel/silver leaf mixed media on Arches cold press featuring earthy greens, blue hues, and subtle orange. Bold silver shapes interrupt the color flow. These pieces can be independently displayed or as a tryptic like they were intended.
My dad said they look like a racetrack when they are displayed in the order that I painted them so, I’ve aptly named them, “The Race.”
DM me if your interested in acquiring these abstract pieces. ✌️

It’s almost that time and I can hardly wait #fall #autumnmagic #coloradocolors
Hiya! I made quick work of an art install at the Highlands Ranch Library this afternoon!! Stop by and take a peak at some of my original watercolor paintings and watercolor batiks. If you do stop by, just ask any of the staff about it and they’ll point you in the right direction. The exhibition runs for two months until August 31st.
✌️
I roped my son into helping me get some pieces of art ready for hanging. They’re almost all done and ready for display!
W🤩W! I’ve been impatiently waiting over a week for my Iris to bloom. This morning it was fully opened up and I couldn’t help but take some quick phone shots before work. This is the richest velvety-purple I have ever seen! I’ll never be able to replicate this, nor would I try but whoa, I’m inspired right now! Stay tuned…
Got a big surprise today when I was given the People’s Choice Award for my watercolor painting that was included in the ‘Mud Season’ exhibit at 40 West Gallery in Lakewood, Co. Thank you
These original ink illustrations I did some time ago got inked this weekend with pink and blue wash. They are each mounted onto a beautiful 4” x 4” birch wood panel and sealed with a wax finish. DM me if these suit your fancy.
Need a hook up for a gift for a Mothers Day gift? I got you!
Check it out..
Dm me if you want your mom to have one of these original mini acrylic paintings done by me. Each one comes in a super cute frame. $30 includes shipping.
When you buy original art, you are buying something from the heart of the creator. Sometimes you get bonus extras like an ink spill on the back of the piece. This says as much about me as the artwork does! I hope you like them. 💜🖋️
**Edit~These are now sold**
April, 2023.
Celebrating a little win tonight with fam for my birdhouse painting that is in the exhibit ‘Mud Season.’ The exhibit runs through April at 40W Art Gallery in Lakewood and celebrates the theme of winter changing to spring.
I worked this piece today with black, red, orange, and yellow ink. I am enjoying exploring loose free-flowing style with no predestined plan.
It’s the season! I can’t wait for the wildflowers to be blooming on my hikes.
This genre of art is referred to as neurographic art. It sounds scientific but it’s really just doodling! It’s incredibly cathartic as it takes the minds’ focus away from stress. In the end, you get an interesting piece of art and a therapy session you didn’t even know was happening!!
I loved painting this one. I had no idea what was going to be produced on my paper. No plan. No color scheme. It just sort of developed on its own accord.
I had this idea during Inktober 2019. The word prompt was ‘injured.’ I really enjoyed participating in the month long daily ink drawing challenge. It pushed me forward in many ways. There are so many talented artists that participated and it was cool seeing what people’s imaginations led them to draw from a word prompt.
Cartoon drawing of a wolf in the woods from my high school art class in 1988. I have no idea what inspired it. Perhaps from another artist or a random idea. I was using a stippling technique with black ink. Day 23 of 31 social media art posts. Why? I dunno-why not?
The latest in an intuitive art exploration. This was done using 4 types of ink. Drop me a comment below and let me know what you think. 👇
Playing around with abstract shapes and colors with watercolor and ink.
I got some cool news today! My artwork has been chosen for display next year at Douglas County Libraries Highlands Ranch location. Specific dates are TBD but will be displayed for 2 months between July and December 2023. More to come on this down the road.
