So 1 of the 3 SMSport cars is starting to look the part.
In recent weeks it's had a massive amount of work put into it. 😅 Started out by stripping all the old/dated and damaged front suspension components including hubs and subframe. Subframe had been sent to be seam welded/sandblasted and then powdercoated. We followed this up by replacing all the arms with the kfd pro angle kit, this kit includes everything from adjustable upper and caster arms, 40mm extension on the lower arm, longer tie rods and extra lock knuckles.🤗 After some small discussions with other members in the group we came to the conclusion we'd rather continue using the lexibreak quicksteer knuckles instead of the kfd supplied pieces. This allowed for a similar driving feel to before any work was done 😉 With all the arms fitted we replaced the main hubs with some fresh powdercoated ones all fitted with brand new bearings and studs. This was followed up by a big brake upgrade on the front. For this upgrade we are using freshly rebuilt front calipers and discs from a lexus ls400. Not only are these bigger and better but they allow for super fast brake changes and the chances of brake fade are decreased dramatically 🙂 these are all being plumbed in using Hel Performance braided brake lines to ensure everything is top quality with top durability. With all this done we replaced the front anti roll bar with a thicker Cusco bar and some 90Sha Strongflex bushes. A fresh TRD front lower brace was fitted, this replaced the flexible standard Cross brace supplied from the factory along with the steering rack having a mild refurbishment. This left the wheels 😳 this was most likely the biggest cause of issues we have had. With the wider track and 70mm arches this proved to be a bit difficult getting a good fitment. We settled in the end with 9j wheels upfront sat on some super sticky nankang ns2r semi slicks. The freshly refurbished wheels finish it off nicely :) still lots to do with the car but atleast she's almost ready to be put back on the road and enjoyed :)
