Groesbeck High School Cheer

Well, we did it! We lived through our 2023 Varsity Lock-In. Missed our mascot, who was putting work in for band, but had some extra help. It was a FUN night, full of silliness, laughter, some good old-fashioned hide ‘n seek (with some extra scares thrown in, thanks to my awesome and funny friends, Christi McGilvray Carroll and Kenton Chase), pizza, and a little delirium as the night went on. 🤣🤣🤣

Can’t wait for y’all to see the awesome signs these girls have been working on!

Another cheer camp came to an end today. The last day is always hard for me because I remember being a senior and realizing it was my LAST cheer camp. As an adult, it’s harder because I have to realize it’s my LAST cheer camp with some of my girls. I became the cheer coach at GHS four years ago, and I had two freshmen on my squad with one freshman mascot. The mascot became my cheer manager, and her along with those two cheerleaders, have pretty much lived with me at that school since they were 14. The other seniors were almost all on JV when I started, and even though they weren’t with me on Friday nights, they were with me almost every other night of the week, and have been since. They probably can’t wait to be done with me, but I don’t know what I’ll do without them. Today was the first of their lasts, and it hurts my heart.

Our squads are amazing this year, and while I’m sad, I’m also excited to see who we have to pick up and continue to make GHS cheer great in the upcoming years. They worked so hard this week, learned so much, and had the best attitudes!

Thank you to all the parents, grandparents, staff and friends that came to support the girls in their showcase today, and thanks to Brandi Getz for arranging our meals!

Alyssa Cotton Sullivan and I are so proud of these girls and our guy, Lyric. Please never doubt the hard work, heart, soul and grit it takes to be a cheerleader for the greatest little high school ever.

We have been working hard at cheer camp the last two days! Tomorrow, at 3:30, we will have an awards ceremony and perform in the GHS gym. 🐐❤️📣❤️🐐

*REMINDER* Parent meeting for cheer is tonight at 5:30! This is a mandatory meeting, so if your child is planning to try out for GHS cheerleader or mascot, please be there! Come in through the varsity gym to sign in and pick up paperwork.

It is not mandatory for your child to be there, but it is fine if they would like to come listen!

❤️🐐📣 Sign ups for cheer and mascot tryouts start tomorrow! Sign up sheets will be at the GMS office for middle school, and they’ll be at my room (Mrs. Morgan- 312) for high school. Last day to sign up will be Tuesday, April 3rd.

❤️🐐📣 We will have a mandatory parent meeting on Wednesday, April 5th in the practice gym at GHS. Tryout material will be posted that evening.

❤️🐐📣 Tryout clinic will be April 11th and 12th, and tryouts will be April 13th starting at 5:00.

Today is the day! We have practiced so much and worked so hard for about 3 1/2 minutes on the mat.

The GHS varsity and JV cheer squads send all of our prayers to the Elkhart cheerleaders who were involved in an accident on their way to the Elks’ football game tonight. So scary. Thankful for no serious injuries. ❤️

Another successful cheer camp has come and gone! Thank you to Brandi Getz and all the parents for providing us with lunch this week and to our awesome UCA instructors, Jayla and Morgan. So proud of these girls!

FYI: Physicals at the school are the 9th at 4:00 and are $20 cash. Every girl needs one! Fittings are May 12th at 4:00 in the GHS practice gym.

High School cheerleader/mascot sign ups for this year’s tryouts have been going on for almost two weeks and end tomorrow. If your child wants to tryout, they must be signed up by tomorrow!

Tuesday, April 19th- 5:30- Mandatory parent meeting- students are not required to attend, but at least one parent or guardian must. I know this may conflict with softball; softball parents please email me to make arrangements.

Friday, April 22nd- Tryout material will be released via video. This needs to be worked on before the first day of clinic (Monday).

Monday, April 25th- paperwork due

Monday, April 25th and Tuesday, April 26th- Try out clinic in the varsity gym.

Wednesday, April 27th- Mock tryout- MANDATORY

Thursday, April 28th- open gym

Friday, April 29th- Tryouts will begin at 5:00.

Wednesday, May 4th-4:00- fittings for next year’s squads

There will be a sendoff for our AREA bound Running Goats this Friday at 4:30 in front of the GHS gym!please come show them your support!

They will be rolling through town around 4:40, so if you work downtown or on Ellis Street, step out and cheer for them as they make their way!!

Tomorrow night is the last home game for our basketball boys, and it’s a HUGE one! Even if you haven’t been all season, please make sure you come out tomorrow night to support our boys as they go against Teague! We want a huge crowd!!! I promise you won’t regret it!!!!!
