Stacie Larrison Art
Chronically Ill, Chronically Unstoppable
On Tuesday I was able to begin my Fellowship with Creative Teaching experience through and ! Integrating arts into classrooms can be highly effective. I’m working with Amber Sims at Central Middle School where we are using creativity to improve the students’ understanding of adding positive and negative integers. Mrs. Sims assigned each teen a secret number. The students will use beads to represent positive and negative numbers. Together, each bracelet is an expression of that secret number. Was your math class this fun?!
As I explained the importance of art to me, I had the chance to share my struggle with depression and anxiety that started at their age. Furthermore, I shared that art helps me cope and self regulate with stress and sadness.
Highlights
*Watching Mrs. Sims teach is like watching a performer! Her energy is infectious!
*Students were respectful and grateful for the experience.
*A student shared his own paracord bracelet that he designs.
*Another student shared her drawing with me. She’s quite the artist!
*Finally, sharing with teens as to the magic in the journey of creating to help us manage our feelings is something I’m beyond grateful for.
Anyone going to the Miss Americanas: Taylor Swift Tribute Band concert this afternoon/evening? If you do, stop by Viewpoint first to purchase DIY bracelet kits that you can make during the show! Or grab a couple Blind Date With A Craft Kits for you and your bestie. Pizza, a spooky movie and a Halloween themed craft sounds so appealing.
December is Taylor Swifts birthday month. Elliott is a Swifty. For that month, I’m thinking we do a Taylor Bday/Craft Afternoon. Thoughts???
Today, I had the opportunity to attend the annual NAMI Walk - National Alliance on Mental Illness. I received a grant through the Arts Council’s Flourish Through the Arts Program which allowed me to support the local chapter of NAMI in developing a youth showcase of art based upon “hope.” What does hope mean to you? Today, I asked so many kids about this. The answers were so sweet and honest. For some, it was people or connection while others chose their favorite comforts. This seems like a simple question, but for me, it’s so deeply important. I’m passionate about work like this for a couple of reasons. On one hand, we have the hidden power of creating art that is so good for the soul. As we work through different emotions and process experiences, the act of creating transmutes energy. In this way, art heals and transforms. Secondly, children are more resilient when they remain connected to their “why.”
Special thanks to Janice Montgomery for assisting me in this project and to Columbus Area Arts Council for selecting me to receive Flourish Through The Arts funding. I’m so grateful.
Look how cute my jewelry tray turned out. Have you registered? Why not? I think it would be so fun to go make for a friend as a Christmas gift. You get to enjoy a night out and check off a gift from your list.

Today is all about wrapping up existing commissions and my own art pieces (that will be available for purchase in coming weeks), because this chaos is making me so anxious!
Here’s a little something for the kiddos! Throw on those costumes and head out for some crafts and snacks.
I’ve eluded to exciting things happening, and I finally get to start sharing. I’m going to offer in person craft workshops. Grab your friends, and let’s start crafting! BTW - if you buy 3 tix, the 4th is free. 😉
Last weekend, while attending Reawaken With The Elements, I had multiple opportunities to connect with women. It was absolutely incredible, inspiring, and uplifting.
As I always say, Art is powerful. Art allows us the opportunity to work through our emotions and reflect back to us that which we are experiencing.
I spent some time with a mentor that has come into my life this summer. I spent a bit of time with her, and I was feeling so confident in my own skin. I’ve been reminded that I, too, am a butterfly. Now, when I’m ready, I can stop and rest my wings.
Need something to do? In collaboration with NAMI, we’re encouraging all youth to participate in this art contest. There are plenty of spots to drop off your artwork, and I’m also more than willing to pick up submissions if that’s helpful!
Let’s give our kids some time to consider what brings them hope and encourage them to creatively express those feelings. Art heals!
Creation is healing.

New week - new pieces! First layer down.
Ok, is this what the legs on my table are for? No. That said, this is my art table and I gotta have a spot for pieces as they progress. So this is it for now!
Ok this is it! I have a few left!
