Please join us in wishing Lee Granquist enjoyment in his retirement!

Wayne Larson hired Lee as his first employee in 1978 and when Wayne left the company in 1994, Lee became the President of Larson. He held that position for 27 out of the 42 years we have been in business. He has truly made this company what it is today. With his tireless leadership, Lee has grown the company from about 50 people to 200 people with 11 offices across the nation. We will miss Lee’s positive and reassuring demeanor that has affected so many of us at Larson. His time here has been a true gift. Lee will remain on the Board of Directors so he will still be advising and encouraging us from a board seat.

Congratulations, Lee!

A message from our Chairman of the Board, Lee Granquist.

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news with you that our founder, Wayne C. Larson, has passed away. Wayne died last Thursday, September 2, 2021. He was diagnosed with ALS a few years ago.

I met Wayne in 1975. He was my mentor, my colleague, but most importantly - he was my friend. Wayne started our company from his basement and then graduated to a small office located in a strip mall in downtown White Bear Lake in 1979. The early years were tough and we struggled but Wayne always persevered. He had never ending faith that Larson Engineering would succeed and that faith was tested time and time again. Even after he retired and handed the reins to me in 1995, he never wavered in his passion for Larson. He would stop in the office from time to time and revel at what Larson had become. He was invited to speak at many of our events and never failed to inspire and encourage us.

I have thousands of stories about Wayne but I will only share one about the first big break. It took place within Larson’s first few months. A steel tank in the Hershey chocolate factory collapsed due to an internal vacuum failure. Wayne was hired to solve the problem by one of our few clients. He decided that if a negative pressure caused it to buckle inward, then positive pressure would bring it back. It did and Larson Engineering was on the map.

He was a great engineer with tremendous commonsense and forethought. He was and always will be my friend and I will truly miss him.
