Purpose of Intercessory Prayer
1 Timothy 2:1-6, 8
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all people.
This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. ...
Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.”

A PRAYER ROOM or PRAYER ALTAR

What is the personal altar in the Bible?
1) Family or
2) Home Altar
- A place where family members meet for the purpose of communing, fellowshipping, praising, worshipping, and praying to God.
3) Personal Altar
- As the name implies is a personal means of communication and fellowshipping with God. It is otherwise called 'Quiet Time'.
How to build an altar of PRAYER in your home.

An Altar is a portal through which the spirit realm intervenes in the physical realm.
Do you remember the story of Jacob and the ladder of Angels in Genesis?

Abraham built an altar at Bethel years before his grandson passed through. It was no coincidence that Jacob, his grandson encountered the supernatural at the same place his grandfather raised an altar to God. The truth is Bethel already harbors the supernatural before Jacob had that sleepover.

The secret to making your home a perpetual source of God’s presence and blessings is raising an altar of prayer in your home. When we do, our home becomes a conduit of God’s blessings to your family and those around us.

Some practical steps to building an altar of prayer in your home.
How to raise an altar of prayer?

1. Find a prayer spot in your home.
Luke 5:16. As often as possible, Jesus withdrew to out-of-the-way places for prayer.
A prayer could be said at any time and anywhere. However, fervent prayer often mandates the need to withdraw from the typical hustle and bustle of a busy life into a quiet spot (be it physical or in the mind). So, find a space in your home and shut its door to everything else but prayer.
Find a sacred place. In your house or office where you can raise your altar. In a dedicated room, a dedicated corner. Your altar must be sacred. Some place that is sanctified. Its your place of meeting with God.
If you don't have a spare room, find a corner. Find a chair where you will kneel to pray. If there is no chair, dedicate the wall or a space. A Bible, it must be something physical.

2. Adorn your prayer spot with scriptures.
Hebrew 4:12. For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
God’s word is a powerful tool for offense. The word of God encourages us in the place of prayer.
Also, pray the scriptures, and you will never pray amiss.
Give your altar a name. It must have a purpose. A mission.
Speak to your altar - Your mission and purpose is to protect us. Bring union to our family.

3. Enter into Covenant with God through that altar
(Genesis 28:20)

4. Anoint your altar
When you raise an altar, anoint it to sanctify it.
3- Dedicate your prayer spot to prayer and just prayer, nothing else.
Matthew 21:13. My house was designated a house of prayer…
God inhabits a home where a prayer altar is raised, and such home always becomes divine conduit. God’s glory is evident in and never departs from such home.

4- Pick your prayer time slot.
Genesis 3:8. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day…
God sure can keep an appointment, that is what Genesis 3:8 hints. God will always show up at your appointment if you create one for him in your day. It is true you can pray to God anytime but picking and sticking to a particular time slot or range to spend alone with God will make you consistent in prayer.
God will always show up at your appointment if you create one for him in your day.

5- Be consistent in prayer.
1 Thessalonian 5: 17. Pray continually.
Consistency attracts divine presence. If you want more divine presence in your home, bring in consistency in the place of prayer.
Consistency attracts divine presence.

6- Encourage family members to use your prayer spot.
Matthew 18:19. “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.
When the whole family including children starts to learn to pray, the enemy loses his hold on such a home and God’s presence picks up residence.

7- Occasionally, call a fast.
Joel 1:14. Announce a time of fasting; call the people together for a solemn meeting. Bring the leaders and all the people of the land into the Temple of the LORD your God and cry out to him there.
Add a fast to spice up your prayer times.

Fasting is known to be a powerful consecration tool; it is also proven to be of good benefit to your health.
Conclusion.

In summary, this post is not so much about building a physical prayer altar (even though it addresses that), it is that after consistently going through the steps highlighted in the post, you and your household would have set yourselves on the path to being built up as a spiritual prayer altar upon which acceptable sacrifices of prayer is offered to God.

I Peter 2: 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Are you hungry enough to die to yourself and your dependence upon your natural mind and abilities?
The first thing you must be willing to do is lay aside all pre-conceived ideas, man-made traditions, and religious ideologies concerning prayer.

These things will only weigh you down and prevent you from advancing in the Spirit to a new revelation and experience in prayer.

“Prevailing prayer is God’s ordained means for extending His
kingdom, for defeating Satan and his empire of darkness and
evil, and for fulfilling God’s eternal plan and bringing into effect
His good will on earth.” Wesley L. Duewel

True prayer is much more than a formal repetition of eloquent words strung together to impress the hearers.
It is more than just repeating or quoting prayers from a prayer book.
Prayer that moves the hand of God to produce His will upon earth is not based upon the well-planned strategies developed by our natural minds.
In fact, true prayer transcends the limitations of our natural minds because it is born of the Spirit.

“Prayer itself is an art that only the Holy Spirit can teach us. He
is the giver of all prayer.” Charles Spurgeon

PRAYER WITH FASTING—GOD’S WAY
“ Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “Return to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, weeping and mourning; and rend your heart and not your garments.”

Now return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and
compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness and relenting of evil. Who knows whether He will not turn and relent and leave a blessing behind Him…?
(Joel 2:12-14).

As we see throughout the Bible, fasting was a common practice among the Jews as well as among the early Christians.
It has remained a common spiritual discipline throughout Christian history.

However, in the modern Western world, it has fallen out of favor for obvious reasons—our high standard of living has created a culture of plenty and instant gratification.
Fasting represents the opposite.

Restore the fasting to the prayer-equation.
We can’t talk about having a Prayer Storm without talking about fasting as well.
A spiritual discipline,
“You don’t have enough discipline to have a spiritual discipline.”
You had to have enough personal discipline to maintain any kind of a rigorous spiritual discipline.
“It’s not a spiritual discipline, it’s a spiritual privilege. ”

That completely shifts the mindset.
Yes, discipline is involved, of course.
Consistency is important.
But it’s the grace that God supplies that makes it possible.
I can only fast because God touches my heart and gives me revelation.

When I benefit from the grace that He gives, and I receive His heart,
which He imparts, then I see the divine privilege of colaboring with Him.
If intercessory prayer is co-laboring with Him, how much more then is fasting?
It’s one of the greatest privileges in the Kingdom to be able to seek
His favor in this way.

They Fasted
On Sinai’s mount, with radiant face,
To intercede for heaven’s grace
Upon a stubborn, wayward race,
He fasted.

Once lifted from the miry clay,
When opposition came his way
This soldier-king would often pray
With fasting.

A seer, possessed of vision keen,
Who told the troubled king his dream,
Had light on God’s prophetic scheme
Through fasting.

The prophetess in temple court
Beheld the Babe the two had brought;
For Him she long had prayed and sought,
With fasting.

He came to break the yoke of sin,
But ere His mission could begin
He met the foe and conquered him
With fasting.

“Set these apart,” the Spirit bade.
A spring, that soon vast rivers made,
Broke open by men who as they prayed
Were fasting.
“So shall they fast when I am gone;
Was this no word to act upon?
Ask countless saints who fought and won
With fasting.

When we shall stand on that great day
And give account, what shall we say,
If He should ask us, “Did you pray—
With fasting?”

What is Prayer?
Prayer is a discussion with God; petitioning Him about issues and offering Him thanksgiving and praise.

Communication with God
“Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?
But thus salth the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children. And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the MIGHTY one of Jacob,”
(Isa.49: 24-26).

2. Prayer is the characteristic activity of the Christian life.
3. It is a communication between man and God.
4. It is the opening of the skylight of the soul

9. By Prayer we may induce almighty God to grant that which we desire.
10. Prayer offered in faith is at the same time a request that he induce us to desire that which he wills to grant that we may earnestly say, “Thy will be done,” (Matt. 6: 10).
11. Jesus’ disciples recognized the need for meaningful communication with the Father.
12. The disciples asked the Master to “Teach us to pray.” see the Lord’s Prayer, (Lk. 11: 24; Matt. 6: 9-13).
13. Christians bear the opportunity to demonstrate the Good News that Jesus Christ, the King of Kings, Creator of all things.
14. He has issued a personal invitation to every person to come at any time into His presence for a PRIVATE AUDIENCE WITH HIM.
15. Jesus instructs us to go directly to God, whom we may address “Our Father,” making our petitions in His Name, (Jn. 14: 13).

AUTHORITY IN PRAYER
PRAYING WIth Power and PURPOSE

Religiosity.
There are many religious cliches thrown around in the church, especially in charismatic circles, about "ruling and reigning," being
"more than conquerors," etc.
Though these expressions are biblical, for many Christians they are not reality, but wishful thinking.

This—words or actions without the power or substance that should accompany them — describes one meaning of religiosity (see 2
Timothy 3:5).
Expressions like these are often only heartwarming phrases of religious denial among Christians— stemming from a mentality that spouts slogans and verses about "overcoming," while people are actually being beaten up by circumstances and walked on by the adversary at every turn.
For many believers it seems enough to simply be called an overcomer or to think of themselves as one.
Christ's abundant life is for them an appealing hope, perhaps even an intent, but not actual.

The tragic reality is:

THEIR MINDS ARE CONTROLLED BY SIN AND COMPROMISING THOUGHTS.

THEIR MARRIAGES FAIL ALONG WITH THOSE OF THE WORLD AROUND THEM.

THEIR CHILDREN GROW UP QUESTIONING GOD'S REALITY OR RELEVANCY.

THEIR BUSINESSES FAIL ALONGSIDE THOSE WHOSE OWNERS DON'T KNOW GOD.

THEY WALK IN VERY LITTLE TRUE PEACE OR JOY, EXPERIENCING THE SAME STRESSED— OUT LIFESTYLE AS UNBELIEVERS. (NO
WONDER MOST UNSAVED, SEE NO NEED FOR GOD. WHAT DIFFERENCE WOULD HE MAKE? THEY QUESTION.)

THEY SPEAK OF PRAYER'S POWER, BUT RARELY PRAY; EVEN LESS FREQUENTLY DO THEY SEE ANSWERS.

THEY SPEAK OF AN ALL-POWERFUL GOD, WHO IS "IN CHARGE" BUT WHO SEEMS TO BE LOSING CONTROL OF OUR NATION—OUR
SCHOOLS, GOVERNMENT, AND CULTURE AS A WHOLE.

THEY GLIBLY SING, "COME ON, LET'S TAKE THIS CITY . . ." BUT THEY HAVEN'T TAKEN EVEN ONE YET, for Jesus Christ.

Yet off we go to our church services, week after week, learning our lingo and getting our denial fix, all the while wondering why the rest of society— and many of our children—think we live in a make— believe world of religion without reality,
performance without power.

Talk about a double-billed cap!
What's wrong with this picture?!

Something has to change, and it can.
Our God is all-powerful, and everything He has said of us is true.

His promises are indeed "YES, and in him Amen"
(2 Corinthians 1:20 KJV).
We absolutely can reign in life and be the overcomer He intends us to be, taking charge of our personal world and changing the world around us.
We don't have to allow sin, Satan, or life's circumstances to sit on our chest.

Beginning with your private world—your thoughts, body, actions, and ultimately your God-ordained destiny—you can take charge. Authority is yours.
Then because God established and so honors the principle of authority, He will back you as you walk in the government He has delegated to you regarding your extended world— your home, family, business, and possessions.

Finally, God's plan is for you to partner with Him on the earth in broader realms of influence and authority—your universal world.
Jesus, the sovereign King over the earth, wants to rule institutions, cultures, societies, and governments through you and your prayers. He needs you: Your choice matters and your involvement is crucial. You have been offered the great privilege of helping to answer the

"Who's in charge?" question for the earth.
I want to help you take off the double-billed cap, answer the question clearly and emphatically ... !

It seems that at every level and in every arena of life, power struggles occur:

MEN AND WOMEN WRESTLE OVER CONTROL OF RELATIONSHIPS.

PARENTS AND CHILDREN STRUGGLE WITH WHO WILL RULE THE HOUSE.

SIBLINGS QUARREL OVER TOYS, CLOTHING, TV, AND A HOST OF OTHER ISSUES.

BUSINESSES CONNIVE TO CORNER VARIOUS CONSUMER AND INVESTMENT MARKETS.

SPORTS TEAMS VIE FOR FIRST PLACE.

DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS STRIVE FOR THE DOMINATION OF AMERICA.

LEADERS OF NATIONS WAR OVER CONTROLOF LANDS, PEOPLE, AND WEALTH.

Everybody wants to be in charge!
Who is ruling your world?
I'm not referring to the big one, as in planet earth. At least not yet.

I'm talking about the world you live in every day,
your personal world. I'm speaking of your home, family, job, health.

God doesn't intend that any outside force dominate you.
He has given you jurisdiction over your life.

The P OWER of P RAYING for O THERS

Colossians 1:9-14
“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not
stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the
knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding”
(Colossians 1:9).

F or all the people we care about—parents, children, a spouse,
friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, or people in need around the
world—one of the best things we can do for them is pray. We may
not be able to provide them with good health, financial security, or
protection from all harm. But we can pray that God will heal them,
provide for them, and keep them safe.

The promise to pray for others is one of the finest gifts we can
give. Every time we seek the presence of God and the release of His
power on behalf of someone else, great things happen.
It is the most effective way we can touch others and make a difference in their lives.

The most important thing we can pray about for others is that
they will know God better and that He will help them understand His will, grow in spiritual wisdom, and live lives that honor Him.
We can pray that they will become more like Him and bear the fruit of His Spirit.

When we pray for others, we are asking God to make His
presence known in their lives. We are asking Him to open their heart so they can hear from Him.
That doesn’t mean there will always be an immediate response. Sometimes it can take days, weeks, months, or even years.
But our prayers are never lost or meaningless.
If we are praying, something is happening in the lives of those for whom we pray, whether we see it or not. Everything that needs to happen in our lives and in the lives of our loved ones cannot happen without the presence and power of God.
Prayer invites and ignites both.

PRAY
Lord, I pray for the people You have put in my life and on my heart.
Fill them with wisdom and understanding and the knowledge of Your will so that they will stay on the path You have for them. I pray they will learn to hear Your voice and come to know You better, so that they can have a closer walk with You. I pray that You will help me to do as Paul did in Your Word and not stop praying for people. Help me to keep praying, even when I don’t yet see the answers to my prayers manifesting in their lives.
In Jesus’ name I pray.

30/04/2024

IF my people, which are called by my name, shall HUMBLE themselves, and PRAY, and SEEK my face, and TURN from their wicked ways;
THEN will I hear from heaven, and will FORGIVE their sin, and will HEAL their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14-16 King James Version (KJV)

28/04/2024

Prayer is communication with God.
Praise Him and share our joys and sorrows with Him.
Quiet time during prayer can also allow God to speak to us or impress us with direction and comfort.

There was an inspired poet who said,
"Prayer is the christian's vital breath".

Is your prayer life (spiritual breathing) strong and nourishing?

Jesus taught about prayer and the condition of the heart to reach God.
