That bittersweet sweet moment!
As Row has left the Gold Coast for the bright lights and delights (and all things twangy) of Tamworth… I thought that I would share the news that our trusty steed’s have departed from our lives, and will continue to give joy to their new owners - thanks Ester and Gary
Carole continues to enjoy trips in her motorhome, and we are looking at going full circle back to swags and tents for the time being (it’s the first time ever Row and I have not had some type of mobile abode!), though who knows what is on our horizon…
We had an absolute blast sharing our trip and it’s highlights and I enjoyed writing the occasional yarn, so until I can work out how to edit drone footage, it will be bye for now.
P.S.
Happy 2023!
The end is near!
Middleton Pub, Winton, and Longreach all had a part in the last of our journey!
We had a great stay in Longreach, and enjoyed a riverboat trip, and ride on the Cobb and Co stagecoach.
Not too many updates left, so enjoy the pictures.
A town like… Livin next door to…
Alice!
A curious place, and an odd feeling being so far from the ocean. We continued to gorge ourselves… but importantly, visited the transport museum!
Then another big day of corrugations as we continued along the Outback Way to the Qld border.
Enjoy the pictures.
Rocks, Rocks, and more Rocks - one was MASSIVE!
This update is written in Longreach, but is of pictures taken at Kata Tjuta , Uluṟu and Kings Creek/Canyon.
Please enjoy the pictures.
We have completed The Outback Way from Perth to Winton 👏👏👏👏
“After” the Great Central Road!
Enjoy…
Catch-up time! Wave Rock - Border.
Again Much has happened since the last post, and we start at Wave Rock.
We all very much enjoyed our time wandering around, up, and over this awesome natural formation, and Hippos Yawn was unique too.
Leave Hyden, we ventured on to Kalgoorlie, and really only scratched the surface (🤣) of this colourful town!
Lake Ballard was the next stop, and home to 50 sculptures, and the best night sky of our trip so far.
Leaving Menzies, we had an overnight at Giles Breakaway, and then the real adventure began as we tackled the Outback Way and Great Central Road. Imagine, two days of thick dust, and another of mud, and endless corrugations… and that is what we went through, however it was highlighted by amazing scenery and ever changing countryside. It was a very unique and special experience.
Eventually we made the NT border, and that is where this update finishes.
Enjoy the pictures.
People, Places, and Partying!
Well, it has been a minute since the last update, but lots of things have happened!
Kicking things off was a visit to Freo, and the boys paid their respects to AC/DC front man at his statue - rip Bon. Party number one was for auntie Shiree’s birthday - congrats again Shiree 😊.
Then we re-traced our travels back to Collie with an overnight at lake Kepwari, and what an awesome spot that is! Then we visited my cousins farm! This is the ultimate boys adventure place! We: drove a bobcat, rode a quad bike, paddock bashed the Vitara, went for a truck ride, had a bonfire, plucked marron from the stream (delicious apparently), threw darts (onya Daryl), and with bubbles and catching up the gals had a great time too.
Then it was back to Perth, and for me, something special. The boys, uncle Cam and I had a overnighter at Ledge Point, and then… I got to unleash my inner Crusty Demon - though you can probably leave off the Demon part! We blasted through the dunes at Lancelin on race quads, and I even managed to not embarrass myself!
A couple of days of trip prep followed and in no time it was party number two - Mitch’s 40, and for all the hydration that went on - we felt dehydrated the next day…
Another pack-up, a fond farewell and we’re on our way, and heading for Australia’s longest shortcut - albeit with an extra adventurer…
Enjoy the pictures.
Update time!
Come for a easy 4wd enthused my brother, nothing too hard or full on…
Jet the Suzuki begged to differ! Oh well - traumatised boys, a frowning wife, and some quality time on my other brother’s hoist, and we’re back on the road.
On the bright side, we have enjoyed doing tourist things, and catching up with friends too. Perth and the swan valley, you have been a delight! Chocolate, cafés, wine, restaurants, pawnshops, Bunnings… and big boys toys too!
Enjoy the pictures 😊
Hi everyone, we are in Perth - well the Swan Valley to be exact!
We have reached the people part of our journey, so to our near and dear friends and family, we want to see you!!!
We have an amazing Airbnb with loads of space, so come see us! We really are looking forward to catching up with you all so let us know if you would like to visit.
The property is 14 acres with horses, and a big house and fire pit - all we need is some good weather and your company…
P.s. we have the house until the end of next weekend!
Some pictures…
An overdue update!
Some people think that Bremer Bay is pretty good - I beg to differ…
Good doesn’t come close to describing this place! We really enjoyed our brief visit, and our stay in Albany was really good too. The boys got some learning in at whale world and we visited the gap and the natural bridge.
Next was a farm stay and a serene overnight stop.
Enjoy the pictures!
Hello W.A.!
With our feet firmly planted on the soil of Esperance, we have thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. We stayed in another amazing park and shared in lots that is on offer.
It seems no bad deed goes unpunished… and my previous comment on Row’s sleep, saw some swift retribution in the form of another break down to repair, and this one was particularly unsavoury! You see, our black water tank developed an annoying/embarrassing dribble… imagine this scenario, you are stopped at the boarder checkpoint, and the staff are diligently checking for fruit/veggies/honey, and the wonderful aroma of one’s and two’s (that’s what a black water tank contains for the uninitiated) are wafting up from a steadily increasing puddle - somehow we were still allowed entry!
Anyway, I had the job of scraping of the numerous previous patch-ups and apply a patch-up of my own… ah the joys!
Thanks for reading, and please enjoy the latest pictures.
Ok, I know that it has only been 2 days, but I just have to share this!
Yesterday we got to enjoy Southern Wright Whales in nature’s nursery - the head of the bight! These magnificent animals were awesome!
Now, get ready for this… in the evening my lovely wife had half a dozen of the freshest Ceduna oysters! This was washed down with red wine, followed by dancing (of all things) on a deserted road to an iconic Aussie soundtrack! A nightcap was then enjoyed, the boys shuffled of to bed, and and and this deprived husband got the S word!!!
There were multiple crescendos, followed by a period of quiet, only to build again! I am exhausted, truely exhausted still, but, there are another dozen of these wondrous creatures in the fridge!! I don’t know how I will cope…
Oh, I’m sure you have all guessed the S word, but if not, it was Snoring! 😇
Have a laugh, enjoy the pictures, and share a comment if you like…
We have enjoyed Streaky Bay, and leave for the head of the bight in the morning. We are hoping to see some whales pass by!
These pictures show us thoroughly enjoying ourselves here, and the boys even got to try an incredibly realistic driving simulator out… on private property of course!
Enjoy these pictures, and we may be missing in action for a couple of days until we get an internet connect, and something to share.
With Adelaide behind us we had a stop at Kimba!
We did not expect much, but what a revelation!
There was a free camp… and it was amazing! We had a meal at the pub… it was amazing! We had breakfast at the Galah bakery… ho hum!
Redemption at the farmers wives collective… coffee, chitchat, scents, soaps, and a relax in front of the fireplace!
If you need a stop while travelling, make sure to give Kimba a go!
Today saw us wander along the coast to Streaky bay, and we have snagged a beach front site for a couple of nights.
Enjoy the pictures.
Loving our impromptu visit Adelaide!!
So, after being elbow deep is repairs to Jet the Vitara, we then had to vacate our spot at Levi CP, and we then managed to stumble upon this gem!!!
Without doubt the best caravan park we have ever visited! The bar has been set!!
What is on offer…
Water park, heated pool, cafe, bouncy pillow, and manicured sites! Impressive yes, but you’re probably thinking is that it? No, there’s more… amusement arcade with massage chairs, gym, BAR and restaurant, outdoor cinema with heated booths and beanbags, indoor tennis court, and even a boardroom!
Needless to say, the boys are loving it!
Enjoy the pictures…
Sometimes it’s a motorhome kindof day! A time out day today! It’s slightly warmer here than Broken Hill but still a cool breeze.
Farewell Broken Hill, hello… Adelaide!
Wait - what? Adelaide???
Yes, not quite the most direct way to W.A but we we had to back track a little to the big smoke.
Jumbo the MoHo had his time in the spot light, and obviously Jet the Suzuki he tows got jealous! A hissy fit, breakdown assistance, and an idle that varied from 900-2500rmp in waves made for interesting driving… Now, we have an unpredictable Grand Vitara (it’s running perfectly now) to fix before continuing westwards - wish us luck, I think we will need it!
Hopefully some answers tomorrow…
Today was really special! We visited a movie set, an art gallery, and a museum dedicated to the Mad Max 2 motion picture! It kicked off with some of the best sausage rolls and coffee ever!
Enjoy the pictures of Silverton - a town that once boasted 11 pubs and 3 breweries!
Hello Broken Hill!
This town is full to capacity, and some.
We were super fortunate to secure a site for a few days - phew!
Yesterday saw the big chief get behind the wheel of Jumbo our home on wheels, and she handled it like a boss! I m super proud of her!
Last night was spent in Cobar and there was not much to report - thankfully!
We’re looking forward to spending time here, and there is lots to do here, and I need to catch up on my work.
Till next time…
P.s.
The boys got their dog fix during a roadside stop with the gorgeous Molly!
Parked up in Narrabri!
Factory trained Isuzu mechanic - 0
Local NRMA contractor/legend - 1 and the win!
What was the issue that halted all progress???
Yep, a brake light fuse!!!
So simple, so easy. That was the first lesson of the day - of many…
Upon stopping Row was greeted by our first GOF… an acronym I now have on repeat in my head! Hint, it relates to other traveler’s
Leave a comment if you think you know the meaning…
On the road……..AGAIN! Update later!
Update time! Well, we have managed to trundle our way along to Goondiwindi!!!
I know, a massive effort…
Well, we got here Thursday, and jumbo our MoHo decided that it wanted a rest!
We have no gears, other than an the emergency override for reverse and 1st gear.
Sadly, no workshops in town have a scan tool to read the issue, so we may need a tow to Toowoomba. One quote for the tow was an eye watering $3290.00!!!
Anyway the silver lining is, it happened in a large town, the sun is shining, and there are lots of things to do nearby. And, I have somehow managed to remain married!
Enjoy some pictures
Well we managed to roll out of the driveway today, all-be-it two hours later than planed… but we made it to Gore! If you are squeamish don’t look at the pic’s.
Let the adventure begin!!!
Join Rowena, David, and Carole - along with Chase and Darcy, as we head off west from the Gold Coast on an adventure to Perth and back.
If you are interested in following along we hope to regularly post updates and pictures on this page to keep our family and friends in the picture.
Thanks, wish us well, share any useful tips, or those must see/visit locations or attractions, and we really look forward to having you along for the ride!
