Low clouds occur below 6500 feet, and normally consist of liquid water droplets or even supercooled droplets, except during cold winter storms when ice crystals (and snow) comprise much of the clouds.

The Piper PA-28 Cherokee is a family of two-seat or four-seat light aircraft built by Piper Aircraft and designed for flight training, air taxi and personal use.[3] The PA-28 family of aircraft comprises all-metal, unpressurized, single-engined, piston-powered airplanes with low-mounted wings and tricycle landing gear. They have a single door on the right side, which is entered by stepping on the wing.

The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is an American four-seat, single-engine, high wing, fixed-wing aircraft made by the Cessna Aircraft Company. First flown in 1955, more 172s have been built than any other aircraft. It was developed from the 1948 Cessna 170, using tricycle undercarriage, rather than a tail-dragger configuration.

Captain Tim Lancaster was sucked out of his seat and partially out of the window . Nigel Ogden, a flight attendant who happened to be on the flight deck at the time, grabbed the captain's belt. Other than a flight attendant and Tim Lancaster nobody was hurt. A report later showed that the cause of the windshield breaking was a British Airways engineer, working under pressure, had fitted a new windscreen with bolts that were too small.

Airplanes have their own unique system of cuneiform that passengers may have noticed but never really understood. The inside of the cabin is marked with little triangles that can be either red or black. An especially astute passenger will notice that these little triangles throughout the cabin line up with the wings outside the plane.

The "dimming of cabin lights" only happens when it is dusk, dawn or dark outside the aircraft. This is a safety measure, and is to ensure your eyes are adjusted to the gloom enough to see the floor lights leading you to safety along the aisle in the event of a crash or emergency evacuation. If the cabin lights were on, but then went out your eyes would need a while to adjust to the lower light levels.
