Lions of Steel Medieval Fightclub

Now that all the Lions are home again Worldcup Libusin 2023 is a fact.

Lions of Steel fought in all three buhurt categories and not without succes.

In the 5vs5 we came second in the poule losing after a 3 round match against the Dallas Warlords.

In the knockout stage we came across the Danish Iron Wolves losing after a 3 round match.

The 12vs12 had some great fights assisted by our Swiss friends and our French training buddy's from Metz Béhourd - Graoully but unfortunately we couldn't finish high enough to advance.

For the 30vs30 we joined the French alliance and together we took home the Gold.🥇

All in all we look back at an amazing tournament.

Last sunday was our last group training before the Championship in Libuŝin Tsjechië.

We were joined bij Masnada Buhurt from Germany and the Green Bastards from Belgium.

Always nice to have other clubs come over and train with us.

Lions of Steel Medieval Fightclub

Some of the fighters have left the team for Buhurt Masters and nearby tournaments, but we believe they will restore their strength to Buhurt Prime!

In the year of many cancelled tournaments we look back at the only event close to home.

Let's hope the continued Buhurt League season will give more tournaments and teams the ability to do what we love most.

When some years ago Buhurt was introduced in the Netherlands, i didn't take long before some ambitious young fighters with the same mindset created the Lions of Steel.

Fighting as friends having a good time their goal was always to improve.

The Lions ambition grew even more when the HMBIA introduced the Buhurt League.
A system to unite all the HMB teams from all over the world in a ranking system.

Getting more serious about trainings, travelling to more and further away tournaments. The experience and determination payed of with the Lions climbing up in the rankings.

Last year they just ended up outside the top 20 due to an unfortunate loss of points when a tournament they earned a Bronze medal at had the league status revoked afterwards.

Still they were invited to fight at Buhurt Next, wich made for a great experience.

The goal was set, and the aim was a top 10 position for the new seasson 2020
to fight at Buhurt Prime.

Starting of 2020 with a bigger passion then ever the first points were earned.

But then Covid 19 happened...😑

Many tournaments were cancelled and the 2020 season is a mess.
Still the Lions following the Corona guidelines attend(ed) as many tournaments as they could and can.
Earning precious points and even Medals.

With the few tournaments that were held, the current rankings show the Lions at the very desired no. 1 position..😱🎉🎉🎉

What will the rest of this hectic seasson bring?
Will they end up within the top ten rankings?
Will they be invited to fight at Prime...?💪

Only time will tell...but you can be sure that the Lions are more focused then ever..

This weekend was a successful weekend for the Lions.

They traveled to Swiss to compete at the tournament Colombier.

Winning al the fights except a 2 round draw against Aguilla. In the third symbolic round Aguilla took the match, earning a well deserved Gold medal.🏅

Leaving the Lions a hard fought Silver one.🥈

After the 5vs5 the Lions joined forces with Ta**us Medieval Fight Club - Torino e Milano and Les Comtois in the 12vs12, winning the Gold.🏅

So once again a great weekend for the Lions who brought two new fighters who held their own.

This weekend the Lions travelled to a Buhurt League challenger tournament in Namyslow Poland.

It was a very hot day wich made for very tough fights.

The Lions came second in their poule, losing only from KSR.

Haunted by injuries they made their way to the quarter finals.

Starting the fight for third place against Legenda Polnosky2 with only 3 fighters.
The Lions managed to win the first round fighting with the hart of a Lion.

Round 2 they started with 4 fighters, and managed to win again.
Securing the 3rd place and the bronze medal to take home.

Our very own Roy Hoeben was selected as most valuable fighter of the tournament.

All and all a great tournament, and a nice adventure to Poland.

After months of Corona madness where tournament after tournament had to be cancelled.

The Lions hosted a small tournament in the beginning of this month according to the RIVM corona guidelines.

8 teams made their way to the "Jan van Brabant Challenger".

It was a very hot day with hard clean fights.
The teams were eager to finally fight again after all this time.

After round Robin the always impressive Prague Trolls took home the Gold.

The Lions took the Silver losing only from the Trolls after a 3 round fight.

Bronze was for Germany's strongest team Decima.

Most valuable fighter went to Vaclav Sokol of the Prague Trolls.

I think we can look back at an awesome small tournament. Hopefully the first of many to come.

So today we had some unexpected visitors at our Lions of Steel training.

In the area for a different item this local news crew saw our fighters go at it.
Their curiosity was triggered, and they decided to make an item about our awesome sport.

Throwback to BotN 2019, around this time last year. We succesfully defeated the poule fase, then defeated Finland II and a long standoff against Ukraine ended with the last of them standing, thus kicking us out of the competition. We went on to join the French in the 30v30 and ended up 4th, losing to the UK. Some of us eventually joined the 150v150 to have some insane fun. BotN Serbia was absolutely an amazing event. We miss fighting. Hopefully, the second half of 2020 will be a bit more eventful. Stay strong and see you in or around the list.🗡🛡⚔

Onze boy Mike Langes staat in de regiokrant! Netjes kerel!

Een harnas maken is puur vakwerk Zit er een harnasmaker in Groesbeek? Jazeker! En dat anno 2020? Mike Langes (25) maakt in zijn vrije tijd echte harnassen naar middeleeuws model. Noem het gerust vakwerk, geschikt voor het gevecht. Mike kan dat weten, hij reist zelf door heel Europa om mee te doen aan ‘historical medieval battle.....

This weekend was an excellent weekend for the Lions.

Fighting at the Wintercup in Goch 2019, we took home the Bronze.🥉
This year we came back and went for gold 🥇in the 5vs5 on Saturday.

On Sunday a couple of Lions joined forces With Ta**us, Invicta and Bonnacon to form the 10vs10 team Hydra and brought back the Silver 🥈.

The last weekend of january was a busy weekend for the Lions.

Travelling to Laon France for a weekend filled with fighting.

On Saturday the Lions were invited to fight on Buhurt Next. A tournament for the numbers 11 till 20 in the Buhurt League rankings 2019.

The competition was fierce, the fights were hard and the Lions ended in the 7th place on this wonderful tournament.

No rest for the wicked, so on sunday the Lions fought at "Behourd au Laon" a Buhurt League challenger tournament.

Fighting strong in the poule fase, winning all but one made the Lions go through to the 1/4 finales. Where they stranded after a very tough fight against one of the Bern clubs.

All and all a great, well organized weekend. With lots of experience for some newer Lions who really stood their ground in this tough competition.

Lions defeats all teams except Bern in the poule and will progress to the next round at about 17:00pm.

Make sure to follow us at Laon, 25th of January.

On January 25th in Laon, France will be held! One day before some of the strongest French teams will cross their swords at Laon au behourd, ten teams from six countries who did not make it to the 2019 season Top-10 will step into the list.

Three local teams from France will fight on their home soil: Martel, Carcas-Sonne and Ar Groaz Du.
Russia and Polland will be represented by two teams each: Bear Cubs and Yenisei for Russia and Legenda Polnocy and Lwy Lublin for Poland.
Three other teams will fight for Belarus, Netherlands and Spain: Syabry, Lions of Steel and Ursus Custodes.

These ten strong teams did not get their invitations for the most important tournament of the season , but they fought hard and definitely deserved their places at Buhurt Next! Maybe next year we'll see them at Prime, but now it's time for them to fight for the second biggest trophey of the season!

The Lions traveled to France this weekend to compete at Tournoi de Flandres.

The poule fase on saturday was a tough one, but after hard fights we ended up second losing only one match against White Company.

The sunday was an unlucky one, plaqued by injuries the Lions kept on fighting giving their opponents a run for their money.

But standing with only 3.5 fighters in their last match and taking the 8th position, the result does not display the level of fighting, the determination and pure will power shown by these guys on this tournament.

Our Fighter Roy Hoeben received the reward for Best action in the tournament, by throwing a fighter out of the arena...

All in all it was an amazing weekend and a definite step forward in the journey of the Lions of Steel...👊

This weekend Lions will conduct another training weekend saturday and sunday in Liempde, Noord-Brabant. This weekend we had a training weekend with the awesome Igor Parfentev of Buhurt Tech. Everybody's friend who will hug you and then proceed to destroy you with an axe. Results for the 5v5. Lions comes in 5th out of 16 teams. 12v12 we came in 2nd and won Silver joining up with Eiserne Löwe. Great weekend for us.

The Allions, made from Lions of Steel and Eiserne Löwe comes in 2nd in the 12v12 category at Berlepsch Cup. Absolutely tough fights but we are really proud of this achievement. Thanks to Eiserne Löwe for fighting with us and thanks to the organisation of this great tournament.

Lions is out of the 5v5 competition at a 5th place at Berlepsch Cup in germany. Coming so far with just 7 fighters of which 5 are relatively unexperienced fighters is something to be really proud of. Looks very promising for the future. At 13:00 these 7 fighters will join up with Eiserne Löwe from germany to compete in the 12v12 as 'Allions'.

So at KenningStriid our most recent tournament, The Lions were accompanied by a Journalist and photographer of the Panorama a national weekly magazine.

Today the story got Published, and what a nice story it is. Karin (journalist) and Ritzo (photographer) were very impressed by our lovely sport, and that you can see in the end result.👌

We came to fight indeed. And fight we did.
Exactly 12 men against world champion level fighters repeatedly without reserves.

You may have noticed that ‘St. George’ got steamrolled pretty fu***ng hard in the 12v12 at Kening Striid. Well this is us.

We originally had 20 men and a further 10 who expressed interest in replacing those who dropped out due to injury in the 5s or travel issues, etc.

In the end, we just managed to scrape together exactly 12 men from all over to form a rag-tag band and field those same 12 men 4 times over and over against world champion level fighters.

We came to fight and fight we did.

The Lions joined up with Order of St.George and Bokkenreyders to field a team of exactly 12 men strong to face the mighty Bern from Russia and a mixteam of White Company, Belarus and Bern (Friendship).
We gave our all and joined in for some fun battles afterwards. We had alot of fun and learning from these battles against some of the strongest fighters in the world!

We greet the winners in the 12 vs 12 category at the Kening Striid Masters Tournament.

Bleiberg tournament update:

Lions takes all wins except a 1-2 round against Decima. Tommorow we continue to the finals to face Decima again for the gold.

This weekend two Lions teams fought at Dokkum open air Challenger.
The weather was hot with around 30°c and hardly any wind.

Lions 2 with mainley new fighters assisted by the always willing Barney and Piers from the UK fought Bravely. And managed to win a couple of matches.👊

Lions 1 unfortunatly had only 5 fighters available, so had to fight in this heat without any substitutes.

In the very first round one of the fighters was injured but kept on fighting.

So Lions 1 had to proceed with 4.5 fighters, and even won the Derby against Ascia Medieval fightclub with 4 fighters.

Against KSR one of the Lions dislocated his shoulder and had to go to the doctor. Leaving Lions 1 with 3.5 fighters, but they kept on fighting.

Fighting for 3rd place against the Danish team Sons of Haddock , the Danish started honorably with 1 man at the back of the list.

The Lions won this round, so in the second round the Danes started with 5. It started very close but the Lions lost.

In Round 3 the fatique of fighting outnumbered in 30°c set in, and we had to admit defeat.

So coming in 4th, by a hair missing bronze in these circumstances makes me very proud.

It was a great little Tournament, made very tough by the great weather.

The organisation was absolutly fantastic, from arranged camping to everything on site, every thing was spot on.

I hope this will be an annual tournament from now on.

So big thanks to Kening Striid for organizing this, and our English Friends Barney and Piers for fighting with us.

This weekend some of the Lions went to Spectaculum Worms, for the new fighters to gain experience and for the more experienced fighters to have some fun with other teams. We were taken care of by the great hospitality of Eiserne Löwe and i would like to thank them for the great weekend!
It was a great weekend of buhurt, friendships and having fun. The weather was boiling hot but that didn't spoil it!

Lions will likely be back next year with some more fighters. Bring on the next tournament: Dokkum Open Air Buhurt League.

Great friends all over the world!

There is a great tradition to change surcoats with foreign friends. The Chinese fighters gave their surcoats to the Netherlands fighters and got the gift back....
