Dr. Hashani Samarasena (PGY1), Dr. Priscilla Tutu (PGY3), Dr. Aminah Phelps (PGY3), Dr. Keyana Varnado (PGY 3), and Dr. Chioma Ekwueme (PGY 2) participated in Ochsner Lafayette General’s Diversity and Inclusion resource group panel discussion titled, “ Priority of Our Health Panel Discussion: Stories of Inspiration and Education as told by Black Health Care Professionals.” The residents shared information with community participants on important health screenings such as screenings for breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and much more.

What led you to this career? My grandparents helped raise me growing up and I wanted to give back to older adults

What do you like about Family Medicine Practice? The relationships we get to develop with patients and their families over time.

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received? A patient's daughter was grateful for taking time to explain her mother's condition to her in the hospital and support her emotionally, and she called me "An Angel of God". I felt very blessed and touched that day.
