CHAPTER 3: Quantitative Research Designs
1. Correlational research: The researcher is interested in determining the relationship between two or more quantifiable variables. It is important to note that correlation does not determine cause and-effect.
2. Experimental research: The researcher randomly assigns participants to experimental and control groups and manipulates one or more variables to determine cause-and-effect.
3. Ex post facto (or causal-comparative):The objective of this design is to identify causal relationships among variables that cannot be manipulated such as gender, ethnicity, or birth order. Causal research can be used to determine cause-and- effect between variables.
4. Factor analyses: The researcher analyzes interrelationships within a set of variables or objects to construct a reduced set of variables, called factors, which contain the essential information in the original larger set of variables.
5. Q-methodology: The researcher examines participant’s views about a topic as the participants rank-order the Q sample. The Q sample is developed based on a literature review. The resulting Q sort is used to determine subjectivity.
6. Quasi-experimental research: This design is similar to experimental research; however, whereas experimental research requires a treatment (manipulated variable), control, randomization, and able to be replicated, quasi-experimental is when any one or more of these characteristics of design is not possible.

Questions a Literature Review Should Answer:
1. What's been done in this topic area to date? What are the significant discoveries, key concepts, arguments, and/or theories that scholars have put forward? Which are the important works?
2. On which particular areas of the topic has previous research concentrated? Have there been developments over time? What methodologies have been used?
3. Are there any gaps in the research? Are there areas that haven't been looked at closely yet, but which should be? Are there new ways of looking at the topic?
4. Are there improved methodologies for researching this subject?
5. What future directions should research in this subject take?
6. How will your research build on or depart from current and previous research on the topic? What contribution will your research make to the field?

What makes a good Significance of the Study?
Checklist:
1. Describe why the study is important and how it can contribute to the field of study.
2. For applied studies, explain how the results might both be significant to leaders and practitioners in the field and contribute to the literature. For PhD studies, explain how the results advance the guiding framework and contribute to the literature.
3. Describe the benefits of addressing the study problem, achieving the study purpose, and answering the research questions. Whereas the problem statement should articulate the negative consequences of not conducting the study, this section should highlight the positive consequences of completing the study.
Tip: Consider the professional and academic audiences who might be interested in the study results and why.

Chapter two: REVIEW OF LITERATURE
1) Begin this section with an introduction which states the overall topic of the dissertation and provide an orienting paragraph or two, so the reader knows what the literature review is going to do. Describe how the section will be organized (what are the main points and in what order do they appear?)
2) The organization of the "Review of the Literature" is important. It can be organized by factors, by themes, by elements of the theoretical framework or by another principle.
3) To organize the main topics covered in this section. The flow of this section should be apparent to your readers. Literature Review section should follow some 'logic'.
4) To the end, you must show that your research is a logical development out of the previous research, and is not heading off in some uncharted and unsupported direction. When actually writing the literature review, do not simply string one study after another, even if they are well summarize and evaluated: Follow your organizing principle.
5) There will also be literature reviewed to support the methodological choices made in designing the study. In essence, this section shows the research from which the key elements of the study or paper have been drawn.
6) Whatever organizing principle you choose, follow it strictly and use section sub-headings to keep the reader oriented. Each section or sub-headings to keep the reader oriented. Each section or sub-section should support a conclusion or theme bearing on your overall answer , solution, or argument.

Chapter 1: Introduction
Chapter One should discuss among others the following specific points: 1) an introduction describing the background of the study; 2) the statement of the need for the study/the problem statement; 3) the purpose and significance of the study; 4) the research design; 5) the research question; (6) the assumptions and limitations of the study; and 7) definitions of terms used in the study.
There is also a final section where you will summarize Chapter One and describe the organization and general content of the rest of the dissertation.
Before beginning the first section, “Background of the Study,” write an introduction to the chapter that begins directly after the CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION heading. The introduction should identify the research topic and the main points of Chapter One.
