Every year on August 6, (previously first Monday in August), Jamaicans celebrate the removal of our dependence on Britain, to control specific functions of the country.
At this time we also honor all those persons who were responsible for the transfer of power.
The 5K Gallop is an inaugural event to celebrate Jamaica’s 60th year of independence which occurs on August 6, 2022.
The event will be a fundraiser to support schools in Jamaica which have been significantly impacted during the COVID-19 pandemic with loss of in-person learning and vital resources.

A freak damaged sections of in over the weekend. About one-third of the from two classrooms was lost, a building that houses the principal’s office, and the library. A building that people know as the principal’s cottage, the entire roof of that building is , and there are several fallen trees, mostly coconut trees, across the school grounds. With throughout the school, an electrician was deployed Sunday to disconnect to some buildings because live wires were on the ground. The electrician, who is from the community of and is also a past student, turned up to offer assistance when he heard of the incident. Art Gallery destroyed by early morning 7/3/2022
I am devastated by this news in ! This gallery groomed who came from many different parishes to enter the art world and was also a popular attraction. Port Antonio Mayor Paul Thompson says "It was a facility that assisted greatly with the nurturing and tutoring of high school students, who developed the desire for ." Approximately 25 people, including those from the art gallery and youth information center, are out of a job and will be unable to earn from their livelihood.
I am going to add the Art Gallery to the list of "schools" that people can choose to support with their $30 registration for the or a targeted donation directly to the . This is a huge loss for an area that is one of the most beautiful in and helping to mold the next generation of artists to keep the culture alive. Thank you in advance for your support.
