Here’s the story of “Set It Free (A Feeling)” —

This is the first song TLNGO song I’ve released in a year. I’ve spent the last year or so releasing short instrumental tunes under my real name (Jeremy Willets). While those have been fun, I’ve always wanted to get back to full-blown songs. It’s where my passion lies.

When I started this song, the atmosphere came first. The delayed guitar immediately struck me as something U2 would go for. I wanted to make it more poppy, though. The line — “a feeling nah nah nah” was the first lyrical idea I had. The lyrics were heavily inspired by a conversation I had with my youngest child while we were upstairs in my studio. She was playing around on the guitar and said something about how “you don’t wanna be separated from that thing” and “you’re the biggest mountain I can climb.” She was just having fun, but I noted those phrases and used them to inspire the lyrics here. I think this song is ultimately about rediscovering old feelings, because you haven’t forgotten them. And you never will. Enjoy the song!

I grabbed this photo while on a run this spring in a nearby park. Someone had decorated the trash cans with artwork, and this particular one was beautiful. I wasn’t shopping for single covers at the time, but I took this picture and filed it away. When it came time to pick out a cover for “Set it Free (A Feeling),” this one fit very well with the lyrics.
