Making a change with furniture.

My final piece at is based on the coral reefs.
I was inspired by the natural history museum in Oxfordshire. I saw different types of coal and thought it was a good idea to capture our reefs that are currently dying ( from climate change, declining water quality, overfishing, pollution and unsustainable coastal development.)and have been forgotten.

“The senatorial slope”
I had the great opportunity to design a bench for a local school outside of Oxford. My concept for my design was to help children with sensory overloads, with the design still being available for other children/adults who don’t have these bursts to use.
The slats on the bench are made in different shapes. They are over-exaggerated on my model to show the different shapes/sizes and random contrasts between one another. When seated on this bench, the individual is able to feel the different textures from each bench slat. This can help the individual with fidgeting and bring them to a calmer state when having an overload outburst. This can be put into a social space or a quiet place to be more effective!
Thank you for giving me this opportunity.
