Jessika Grewe Glover
Artist, Traveler, Author of Stars Like Gasoline and The Another Beast's Skin series
Fiona here. Just me and my monster slippers telling you that things are gonna get better. Two months ago I had been in a kennel in rescue and before that…I don’t remember much but my teef are all broken and my paws crack when I walk because they aren’t used to being outside. But look at me now! I have 8000 beds and have chats over the back of the couch. I go for car rides and I get hugs and kisses all day. So if you’re stuck in an icky place, think of me. Fiona. Also, if you know someone who needs a bulldog kiss, shout them out below.
Come see me March 16!
Stars Like Gasoline is the book I had to write. It infiltrated my dreams and made me so passionate about its evolution, that I knew it was something special. There is so much art in the book that when I saw this print of a piece by in Barcelona, it screamed Celia to me. So it sits in my office, reminding me of the ferocity in the creative mind. The candle was a Christmas present from my daughter who bought it at our fav shop in Exeter because it also fits with SLG, which is set in Florida.
Stars Like Gasoline is romantic suspense. An umbrella over the ghosts, art, intrigue, action, and lush settings of the story. It would be a perfect pick.
Hello sweet thing.
Sometimes I tire of where I live. Other times I’m awestruck at the terrain. Today, I’m finishing up reading the Fourth Wing series and enjoying it. I’m packing. I’m getting myself mentally ready to revise my WIP, then to jump back into querying The Death and Resurrection of Mira Townsend. In the last year, among EVERYTHING else I’ve done, I have been querying it, knowing that it will find the right hands. I’ve turned down a few offers of publication because it didn’t feel right, and I’ve had my fair share of rejection. It’s high concept. It’s genre bending (if you’ve you’ve only just started following me, hi, hello, I am a genre bend in the flesh), it’s filled with nuance and lore, academia, and culture. It is, what I would say, the best thing I’ve written. And it needs the right representation for it. So, the trials persist, yet so do I.
✨QOTD: what’s your fav: desert, mountain, ocean, city?
My answer in comments.
No, not every fantasy character needs to wear battle black leathers. And neither do I, but here we are. Overfiltered? I hardly know ‘er

“Joyous Yule to you. May the days of light ahead sustain you in the darkness.”
A traditional Aoifsing Yule greeting from Another Beast’s Skin (book 1 in my contemporary fantasy series).
Happy Solstice. Happy Yule. 🕯️
Today is the last day to order my paperback books in order for them to arrive before Christmas Eve.
Amazon: Saturday, December 23 delivery.
Have a fantasy reader in your life? How about gifting a gorgeous trilogy?
Know someone who like a suspense book with romance and a sprinkle of ghosts? Stars Like Gasoline. Barnes and Noble Valencia has the books in stock.
On behalf of authors and especially indie authors everywhere, we appreciate those who choose to buy and gift our art.💗
My book tree from 3 years ago. It was a lot of work moving the books out to the garage so I’ll just recycle the photo😝
Meet Dean. I tried to k1ll him several times but honestly, I like him too much.
Anyway, half of my household is poorly so I did indeed do the ubiquitous LA green juice run. We’re loading up on all the immunity stuff and hoping to beat this before Christmas. Read my books. That’ll make us all feel better. A Braiding of Darkness is book II in the Another Beast’s Skin series and it’s dark, complex, sexy, and fun. Have at it. And if you’ve read it, what do you think of Dean?
Stars Like Gasoline
SLG is suspense/romantic suspense laden with art, food, and ghosts.
As of this morning, any of my books ordered from Amazon, arrive Wednesday. So there’s still time to order before Christmas! If you’re in the LA area, there are signed versions in Barnes and Noble Valencia.
I almost added
“You can be my wingman anytime.”
“Bullsh1t. You can be mine.” From Top Gun, but I was informed it’s not a trope.
As of this morning, you can order my books from Amazon and they arrive Wednesday, so there’s still time before Christmas. And if you’re in the LA area, Barnes & Noble Valencia has them in stock & signed.
I’m interrupting your Thursday with a recipe. Now, I’m not a recipe girl. I’m a bit of this, bit of that girl. But I’ve made this so many times, I can call it a recipe now. I use gluten free no boil noodles and sauce that has no sugar in it because sugar is gross in sauce. I often do it in the slow cooker too (low, 4-6 hours).
Questions?
“Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.”
-Cruz
I was told that my photos yesterday were “disturbing.” Good, I said. Though that wasn’t at all what I had in mind with that installation, if photos of a woman allowing herself grace to feel comfortable in her own messy art, disturbs, then my duty as an artist is done. Art should make you feel. If you’re disturbed by art, good. If you’re disturbed by an artist taking her art public, then that’s on you. Writing, painting, creating are all the necessities of a creative body. Our jobs in this world as artists are just as valid as accounting and law enforcement. House cleaning and obstetrics. That song you love? That band started out in a basement with family telling them they were wasting time. That print you bought on a street corner in Paris? It’s a copy of one likely done by an artist who went to his grave in debt. Art matters. If you have people in your life who think it doesn’t, they aren’t your people. If you’ve got people in your life who tell you your art made them FEEL, cherish it. And cheers.
Trubaíste: Beautiful Disaster in Aoifsing, the language of my contemporary fantasy series. Also what it says on the necklace I’m wearing.
Part of my favorite quote in Another Beast’s Skin. Chanè à doinne aech mise fhìne. Mise fhìne allaína trubaíste.
I am no one’s but my own. My own beautiful disaster.
This installation has editing pages from 3 of my books and the text encompasses the struggle with self and belonging. The recognition of how strong we are when we shed a skin we weren’t meant to be wearing. Thanks to my guy who indulged me when I said, “I’ve got an idea…” and he was already hungry. 🖤 And yes, I went with a “it’s 1995 and I’m at the Mazzy Star show” vibe. Once an emo kid with a penchant for haunting voices and skirts w docs, always….
Same photo. Different angle.
I have a new book idea. I’m so excited about it, I’m likely abandoning my current WIP to work on it. All I can say is it’s southern gothic (you can take the girl out of the south…) and it’s set in the same world as Stars Like Gasoline. Which you should read. No really.
Reminder: if your order any of my books this month, lmk and I’ll send goodies. If it’s a gift, I can write a personalized note. Which may be illustrated because that’s what I do.
Also, I henna-d my own brows using and holy smokes. I love them. The photo is unfiltered apart from a slight vignette to tone down lamp behind me. So the brows are as is. Fwiw. How’s that for a chaotic post? And every time I wear this, people ask. My daughter designed and crocheted my velvet top.🤍
Tell me this set wouldn’t make a good looking holiday gift. For you or the reader in your life.
All 3 books out now in paperback and on kindle. Through the 25th, I will send out stickers and goodies to those who purchase the paperbacks. Just lmk.

Make a wish ✨
I wish for more readers. More magic seekers. More romantics, looking for lyrical voices, and hungry for stories that bleed out of the lines.
🖤WHAT DO YOU WISH FOR?
Another Beast’s Skin is contemporary fantasy.
Grieving the death of her father, Neysa Obecan leaves her high-powered Los Angeles finance job for the tranquility of an English coastal town. When she meets her brooding new landlord, Cade, and his snarky cousins, they reveal that Neysa is far more than the human she believed herself to be.
The four crystals that halt the deterioration of the Veil between the human and fae realms, have gone missing. Neysa’s new friends are fae emissaries tasked with securing the stones, and she may be their missing piece — making her a target for all those who want to see the Veil destroyed.
As she struggles to accept her true identity — and the truth of her father’s life’s work — Neysa is dragged into a quest to save more than one world.
In their pursuit of the crystals, Neysa finds herself separated from everything she knows; fighting for her life, the realms, and a love she thought she would never have. A love so powerful it could very well be the key to survival for humans and fae alike.
“You know what I want? What I always and singularly want? It’s you. It’s us.”
“Us is a multi-leveled operation now. Us is a factor in a plan, a thread in a tapestry. It’s not you and me.” 💔

Something about the colder days and the pull of exhaustion (first few days of a new dog is an ADJUSTMENT), lends itself to the melancholic. The above is part of a fraying thread within Neysa’s story. A Braiding of Darkness is available now in paperback and on . It’s book 2 in the Another Beast’s Skin series.
These precious things.🤍
The above is a Tori Amos song I used to sing in HS when my voice was still good. I figure Fiona Apple was a better pick as that little nugget is our new foster, Fiona.

Thought you might like to see some of my scribbles of research for Another Beast’s Skin. Some of these were annotations from conversations with a microbiologist and a physicist (actually the Deputy Director for Jet Propulsion Laboratories—nbd). Some are just notes from text books, science journals, and bog standard online research. When I say ABS isn’t your typical fantasy, I mean it genre bends. It has a ton of various sciences and history in it. Oh and obviously I left out anything super spoilery.
Do we like bts posts like this or do we not care? Why are we Royal we-ing?
One of the many art pieces in the new version of my Another Beast’s Skin series, is the map. I had it commissioned years ago from and now that I’ve published the books myself, the map can finally have its two page spread. It shows the layout of the fae realm. The books are sitting here on a map of England because a good part of all three books take place in the northeast of England.
