What goes into ramp design? Of course, we start by following standard guidelines - every inch of rise requires one foot of ramp - but we also follow our hearts. This ramp design required a couple Disney princesses, a snowman, and a few other characters to complete the design.

Last year, Amramp manufacturing won the MMAP (MA Manufacturers Accelerate Program) grant to help fund the purchase of a robotic welding system. It’s funded by the state of Massachusetts in an effort to retain and create skilled manufacturing jobs. Amramp was one of 11 winners of the grant out of 60+ applicants, and stood out among others for its mission to help people find their forward, as well as the growth potential of the accessibility market, and the professionalism demonstrated by the manufacturing team during the facility tour with the grantor.

The robotic welding system will be the latest addition of automation that allows us to increase our production capacity as we continue to grow. At the same time, it will improve the accuracy and consistency of our welded sections and platforms, and provide new learning opportunities for our manufacturing staff. The grant will fund approximately 45% of the procurement and startup costs of the robot. We aim to have the robotic welder up and running by late summer, and are excited for its integration at Amramp going forward!

2024 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day | Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD) 15/06/2024

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, first acknowledged in 2006 by Dr. Elizabeth Podnieks, who declared elder abuse and neglect to be "one of the most unrecognized, underreported, and unaddressed issues of our day." It was later established in 2011 by the United Nations, with a purpose to raise awareness about the abuse, neglect, and exploitation that older persons face, while promoting respect and dignity for this population as well. This year's theme is "Spotlight on Older Persons in Emergencies," to highlight the critical need to support older persons during crises.

Majority of Car-Pedestrian Deaths Happen to Those in Wheelchairs, Often at Intersections - Georgetown University Medical Center 12/06/2024

June is , and this week's theme is . Being attentive when you're behind the wheel is important for your safety, as well as the safety of passengers, other drivers, and pedestrians.

Did you know that data on traffic fatalities and injuries often does not account for people with disabilities and their needs? When implementing safety improvements, it's important to collect relevant data to understand how to best serve the community, but there are no public agencies that specifically track fatalities and injuries involving disabled pedestrians, and police aren't required to note a disability on an accident report. This can be detrimental for people with disabilities as engineers and city planners can't efficiently decide which safety improvements to employ to the benefit of everyone.

According to a 2015 study from Georgetown University, 528 pedestrian wheelchair-users were killed in traffic accidents in the U.S. from 2006 to 2012, making their risk of dying in a pedestrian-car accident about 36 percent higher than non-wheelchair users.

So, how can we avoid more collisions, especially those involving pedestrians with mobility impairments? As driver's we can ensure we're paying attention to our surroundings, staying off of our phones, and driving sober. As community members, we can do what's in our power to keep sidewalks clear of obstacles so wheelchair-users are still able to safely pass by.

Read more about Georgetown University's study at https://stories.amramp.com/AccessibleRoads

Majority of Car-Pedestrian Deaths Happen to Those in Wheelchairs, Often at Intersections - Georgetown University Medical Center An investigation into how often wheelchair users are killed in car-pedestrian crashes finds they are a third more likely to die than non-wheelchair users; more than half of those deaths occur at intersections.
