I am officially announcing my candidacy for the National Veteran Affairs Council (NVAC) President. The NVAC is the largest council within the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE.org).

My decision to run began 3 years ago when I campaigned for this same role, and was encouraged by the voting delegates to consider one of the three Vice President (VP) positions due to my lack of Union experience. Although I did not prevail at that election, hope was provided to myself and the delegates. I promised the delegates that I would commit myself to learning and growing for the next three years, and in return they would give me a chance to build an inclusive table where they are valued.

One of my visions as the next NVAC President, is to donate half the salary for my 3 year term, to spearhead an advisory board where I would invite the current President, and any of the other VP's who are not reelected, to join the board. In addition, I will create a mentorship program for up and coming Union leaders to work in collaboration with the advisory board, and other knowledgeable Unionists. A table consisting of seasoned, current, and future Union leaders will not only make us great, but unstoppable.

Please visit AndreCunningham.com to see how much I have learned, grown, and committed myself to leading the change that will Make Our Union Great Again (MOUGA). The NVAC elections will take place the week of November 6th, 2022 and only registered VA local delegates are allowed to vote.

Although I did not prevail with the title of NVAC President or Vice President I am honored to serve my AFGE-NVAC Brothers and Sisters. I truly appreciate aIl those that shared their stories and feedback during and after my campaign.

The most humbling part of all this was fulfilling an obligation to deliver a message of hope and solutions to Union leaders, stewards and employees across America. The work continues as AFGE L1117 President and I look forward to the greater achievements of the collective.

Be the Change, Lead the Change ✊🏾

Today I would like to announce my candidacy for the National Veterans Affairs Council (NVAC) President. The catalyst for my decision to run is largely based on the attacks waged against the care for Veterans, Union stewards and Veteran Affairs (VA) employees. Now more than ever, we must put our differences aside and use our commonalities to build a table big enough for everyone.

Currently my team is establishing three initiatives to protect VA employees, the taxpayers’ interest and provide mental health services for our Union stewards. Each initiative is 100% funded with the stipend received as Local President.

Improvement takes sacrifice and sacrifice starts with leadership. An effective leader must be the change, to lead the change and I pledge to continue to be that leader.
