We're recruiting! ๐คฉ
NU Teams is the University professional engineering student teams organisation, with four competition-focussed design & build teams developing electric race cars, autonomous boats & drones, and rockets capable of flight to 10,000 ft!
If you're looking to explore the engineering profession outside of the classroom, develop real-world design & manufacturing skills, and make life-long friends within an industry-authentic engineering team environment, we want YOU!
As a NU Teams student engineer, you can look forward to:
- Learning new design & manufacturing skills through dedicated training sessions and mentoring by senior students.
- Using these skills to develop components and systems for our bespoke car/boat/rocket platforms.
- Forming strong and lasting friendships within and outside your team.
- Accessing the best facilities that the School of Engineering has to offer, including; workshops, study spaces, meeting rooms and more.
- Forming working relationships with academics and industry partners who are experts in their fields.
- A head start on industrial placement and engineering job opportunities through the NU Teams alumni network.
- Up to four weeks of industrial experience credit upon completion of your FYP.
If you want to learn and practice hands-on engineering, we want you!
Start your NU Teams journey today by registering your interest here: https://bit.ly/3M7GgW6
Registrations close 17th of June.
Itโs !! ๐ฅฐ We have seen some outstanding engineering produced by the women of NU Marine on this page. Today we are celebrating their ability to absolutely HUSSLE and go above and beyond the call! ๐
To the women of NU Marine, thank you for all of your hard work! ๐
As weโre transitioning from our โBoat Day 1โ phase into Phase 2, we are now looking further ahead ๐. The team have started the hard design phase to develop solutions for the tasks the WAM-V ๐ค will need to accomplish on itโs Competition Day. This means we now need more help than ever to make it all happen!! ๐ช
Mitchell says a huge โHOW GOOD!!โ to starting your NU Marine journey. Just send us a message!! ๐๐
Last, but not least of our FYP students!! All of these little motors, buttons and lights are fancy door stoppers without something telling them what to do! This is where Sarah Creasy comes in, you canโt catch a proper glimpse of her when sheโs on the tools ๐จ! The WAM-Vโs brain is an H7 STM32 and to talk to our other systems, it requires a motherboard for everything to all be plugged in to. Sarah was in charge of designing and painstakingly soldering the motherboard for a very smooth boat day 1!
If you want to get involved, shoot us a message!! ๐๐
๐ธ Lachlan Mayfield
We did a thing ๐. Watch this space, much more to come! ๐ค
Bella Sherring has undertaken the job of engineering a simplified version of what will become our competition rated Emergency Stop. The E-Stop working is integral to the team NOT swimming helplessly after a boat speeding like an unleashed puppy at horseshoe beach (stress ๐
). We have one button next to each motor, to ensure ease of access and maximum safety for Test Day 1 ๐ช.
If this interests you, shoot a message our way! ๐
Introducing Robert (task delegating extraordinaire ๐) Weatherall, Team Leader, in his natural habitat!
Robert is an expert at sitting back and wondering when people are next free to start another task (notice the planner on his laptop). With all jokes aside, this photo was taken moments after he finished helping others with their projects. Robโs stepped into this role with minimal help through the transition (covid moment) and tackled it head on ๐ช. He's done a fantastic job of aiding and facilitating FYPโs, the boring admin jobs, and making sure the team's competitive progression stays full steam ahead. Thanks for all of the hard work and sacrifice Rob! ๐คฉ
If you too, want to be delegated tasks by the man himself, we're one message away! ๐
Introducing our debugger expert Liam Richards! ๐Unfortunately no, Liam will not be ridding the uni of its mosquito problem (absolute heartbreak ๐), but instead is engineering our โvisual debuggerโ for Test Day 1! ๐คฉ
The boat will be turned on wirelessly (also thanks to Liam). The green (on) and orange (warning!) lights will activate separately to visually represent the status of the boat (saving us a dreaded long swim over ๐
).
If you have any questions about getting involved with NU Marine, donโt hesitate to reach out!! ๐
A regular friendly face around the TA building is Isaac Smart ๐คฉ! He has undertaken the role of ensuring the boat moves for Test Day 1. The WAM-V moves using dual Torqueedo motors, and Isaac is programming the STM board to control them in our fancy new Mecha Lab ๐.
If you want to join the team, donโt hesitate to send us a message! โบ๏ธ
๐๐
Happy International Womenโs Day ๐
Today we celebrate all women and everything they do!
BIG shout out to Mitch Scales our Electrical Engineering FYP!!! Heโs a legend who has taken the crucial role of getting the batteries and old battery management system (BMS) working for test day 1 ๐๐
At NU Marine, we need more than just Mechatronics Engineers. If you want to get involved, shoot us a message! ๐
Itโs been a crazy start to the year with a brand new team of both FYP and junior students! ๐ Everybody is currently working hard to get the WAM-V back on the waves (hopefully it floats ๐
). Itโs covid vacation has reached an end, time to put it to work!
We cannot wait to see the team smash our 2022 goals! ๐ช
If you want to join the crew, send us a message! ๐
Are you a final year student interested in completing an FYP project with NU Teams? โจ
We have a variety of engaging and challenging projects available for FYP students which will prepare you with industry and work relevant experiences. These team-based projects will see a successful applicant joining one of our teams: Racing, Rocketry, Marine or UAV. ๐
These projects are open to MECH, MCHA and AERO students enrolled in FYP in Semester 1 of 2022. ๐คฉ
