Phạm Châu Anh - K70A3 - Hãy chăm sóc mẹ
For the first time in my life, I realized that a novel can make me cry with every word. I remember I couldn't stop sobbing as I read about the following chapters with teary eyes.
Insightful, bitter-sweet and quietly heartbreaking, "Please look after mother" by Kyung-sook Shin is truly a little gem.
The main character in the book is Mrs. Park So Nyo- a typical 69-year-old Asian mother. When she and her husband visited their son's house in town to celebrate his birthday, she got lost on the subway.
Upon the disappearance of Mother in the story, each of the children, as well as Father, are forced to rethink their previous image of Mother, recalling memories of the person they realise they hardly new and should have cherished more.
As an avid reader who passionate about the noble beauty that a book can bring, I think of "Please look after mother" as a book that sparkles with divine motherhood.
I am still haunted by the image of the lost mother, her feet in blue slippers, her toes torn to blood. I used to desperately read in the hope of a happy ending, they found her, repented and cared for her more. But when I finally got to see her, hear her speak, it is just the words of the deceased. She couldn't wait. She passed away alone, cold in the weariness of waiting ...
It can be said that "Please look after mother" is the author's awakening voice for everyone. It is a warm awakening that brings tears and pain, long and deep into the subconscious.
“To you, Mother was always Mother. It never occurred to you that she had once taken her first step, or had once been three or twelve or twenty years old. Mother was Mother. She was born as Mother” [Kyung-sook Shin, 2008/11: 27].
