In what I’ve decided is an unintentional but very fun nod to my #instabestie @hand_letteredlyrics , my last two lettering pieces have been song lyrics! Ofc mine are about sunshine, bc that’s who I am and what I love. I went down a @davematthewsband rabbit hole the other night while lettering this. DMB was the soundtrack of my college years, and man did the nostalgia hit hard! Even tho this line only shows up briefly in an excellent live version, it’s my fave version of it. Hola Abril! HELLO APRIL! Last year I was in Italy for April 1, this year Mexico. I rather like this tradition. ….April 2024 thus far…has been…. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 ….a trip. Both literally and figuratively. On Monday, we woke up at 5am to leave our resort, and by 10am were traveling to Dallas…which is where the wheels came off. After many delays, our flight home got canceled, we stayed in airport chairs all night, a kid puked, we rerouted to Louisville, KY (bc there were no flights into the Midwest for 2 days), and planned to rent a car to drive the 4+ hours home. When we landed in Kentucky, we had to circle an hour bc of weather, there were no cars at any of the rental places (despite our reservation - cue Seinfeld), and our luggage didn’t make it. The Hubs ended up Uber-ing to an off-site rental place, the 5 of us crammed into a small car, and we ended up home 36+ hours after we first left our resort. Fun fact: we still don’t have luggage. Which means I’m out and about in the world without makeup, because while I have enough dish soap, laundry detergent, and mouthwash to last months, I do not keep extra makeup on hand. And I’m also missing my mouthguard 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 (#thisis40+ 😂). Anyway, I supposed this is a good exercise in setting aside beauty standards or something like that. 🙃. (I did add mascara to my pickup order today, so I guess I’ll have to “set aside” that another day 😂) So anyway. Hola Abril. Hello April. Please choose to right yourself soon. A few things about this word: 1) I can’t look at it without thinking Swee. Theart. I cannot be the only one who thinks the “th” in the middle makes it wonky?? Or maybe I am? Or…maybe you’ve never thought of it until now and I’ve subsequently ruined your February??? YOURE WELCOME. 2) is this word creepy? It feels creepy to me. I’m trying to think of myself using it in a non-creepy way….and I just can’t. Maybe that’s just a me-thing, too 🤪 3) that black outline. I’m not sure about it. I really don’t have anything funny or sassy to say about sweet peas, which is a bit disappointing. For a brief moment, I thought that sweet pea flowers were what gave Empress Gin its beautiful purple color, but a quick Google shows me that butterfly pea blossoms are what create that magic.
