Hopkinton Students For 100
Student Lobbyists pushing for a sustainable future for New Hampshire Schools
I am happy to present the culmination of eight months of work by our group the Students For 100. The following link will take you to our legal resolution, report, and supplementary materials detailing the opportunities and limitations for our school district's transition to 100% renewable energy. We started this work to prove that what we are asking is not only possible for our small town, but comes with legitimate financial, educational, and environmental benefits for all members of our community. We have spent much time and energy to ensure that what we present here is both fiscally responsible and possible for our schools and town. We firmly believe that the mix of concrete examples and practical guidelines layed out in these documents will lead to a successful, inclusive, and responsible transition to 100% renewable energy across our district.

One of the best things about working as the Students For 100 is getting the opportunity to explore so many different facets of renewable energy. There really is something to interest everyone, no matter if you are in to economics, climate science, mental health, sociology, city planning, etc. Similarly, the benefits of transitioning to 100% renewable energy for our community are multifaceted. If you want to get your tax bill down, improve our district's curriculum, have our town step into a roll of local leadership, or just do something good for the environment, there is a a place for you in this plan. Keep an eye out tomorrow for the publication of our resolution to the school board and our research paper on how our district can transition to 100%. In order to avoid the drastic effects of global climate change, ranging from catastrophic weather events to intensifying public health threats, action at every level of government is imperative. Students For 100 is a group composed of current and former attendees of the Hopkinton School District with the aim of implementing 100% renewable energy within our schools and combating climate change on a local level. Over the last six months, we have been working with public officials, the Sierra Club, and energy experts to examine our ability to transition the district to 100% renewable energy. After these months of work, we are ready to show the school board and townspeople of Hopkinton that not only is a transition viable, it also comes with significant financial, educational, and environmental benefits.
The major product of our work is currently being compiled into a report which we hope to make publicly available along with our resolution on May 26th. Additionally, before the Board vote we hope to connect with as many groups and individuals who are still willing to hold virtual meetings during the current Covid crisis. Please feel free to get in contact with us to ask questions or schedule a meeting with one of our team members. If you want to show your support for our goal, give our page, send it to your Hopkinton friends, and continue to our online petition: https://addup.sierraclub.org/campaigns/hopkinton-students-for-100. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to learn about what we have been doing, and thank you to our public officials for making a 100% transition a possibility.
Hopkinton Students for 100% — AddUp.org Our goal is to get Hopkinton School District to commit to using 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and heating by 2050.
