So I sat with myself for a while trying to understand the emotions that overwhelmed me today, how best to express them and what has been so different for me to other birthdays celebrated here on social media. The only real conclusion I came to - as much of a cliche as it is - can only be described as love and respect.
For your love and respect, I return to you my gratitude. Every one of you lifted me up today with your heartfelt messages. For a time I soared above the clouds and everything felt brighter, more in focus. I spent the day celebrating with my family. My son's hugs especially were magical and I really understood how irreplaceable they are to my life's journey. I genuinely wanted you all to feel my tsunami of joy today because I know a lot of us have not felt joyous for some time.

There is something different in the air this time. It feels like I just gained hundreds of cheerleaders. Lifting me up, applauding my journey and the possibilities of my future. Remembering me, thinking of me as I try to remember and think of all of you. This could all be a figment of my imagination, but I refuse to believe that. We have a destiny to become one voice, one soul, one people. Today I took one step closer to that destiny with you. YOU GAVE ME THE LEGS TO DANCE and the desire to dare to be more than I ever believed possible. You all did that. Without your support, I don't shine nearly as bright.

So thank you, all of you from the bottom of my soul. It was a wonderful birthday because of you xx

In recent weeks I've been asked to teach Cakewalk, African Stomp, Jig. I've taught some of the animal dances too. It's important to know the history of the dance and to integrate vernacular Jazz steps into your understanding of Lindy.

Some of my recent sessions have been devoted to the system of Lindy Hop fundamentals: posture; placement of the feet; recognising what is an authentic idea and what is a modern addition and identifying traits that move you away from authentic Lindy Hop.

I've recently been working with dancers on aspects of body movement: how to relate the hands and arms to what the feet are doing, to connect to the full body structure.

These online private lessons are reaching people who normally aren't able to come to my classes. I can cross the globe several times a day – from Hong Kong to California, London to Singapore...
