I have always liked black walnuts. They have much more flavor than English walnuts, and they are more nutritional. They need to be refrigerated after opening to preserve freshness.
Check out the benefits from the brand that I like best:

We must stop poisoning the earth that sustains us.
Pests and animals like the good stuff, too 😭
We all have to do our part, this includes farms, big and small.
Earth reaches hottest day ever recorded 4 days in a row The planet reached the highest temperature ever recorded by human-made instruments during one of America's most quintessential summer holidays.
Good morning, sunshine! Some of our sunflowers have bloomed.
Just delivered about 70 watermelons to the Carteret Local Food Network. If you want the best organically grown watermelons that you can find you had better find their Veggie Bus schedule!
Picked this behemoth seedless Red Amber watermelon today. Weighing in at 29.8 lbs, my scale, which has a limit of 30 lbs was barely able to weigh it! This big one is saved for my grandsons, but you can have one nearly as big. The good thing about this seedless watermelon is that it is delicious and nutricous all the way through! Our watermelons are Certified Naturally Grown using only organic standards.
Happy 4th of July!
Our Certfied Naturally Grown watermelons are now ready! We have 5 seedless types: Ocelot; Sorbet (pictured here); Cracker Jack; Tropical Sunshine,a yellow flesh with incredible flavor; and Red Amber, our largest seedless type. These watermelons cannot be beat! They will be available at the Carteret County Local Food Networks Vegie Van and at the Coastal Comminity Market in Beaufort this weekend.
This is one of our cantaloupes that we have grown. This one is called Sarah's Choice and it is delicious! Very limited supplies at the Market at Cedar Point and the Beaufort Community Market.
This is a Certified Naturally Grown seedless Red Amber watermelon that was picked yesterday. Only just a few days left before they are available. We will have five different types of seedless watermelons. BTW all watermelons are seeded but seedless types have seeds so small that they are eaten.
I have been watching these large red ants (not fire ants) for at least 8 years that have a low mound along the fence near the barn. They were especially active today.
Picked blackberries and blueberries today.
Good morning, box turtle! Our 3 month old rat terrier, Gretel, discovers a young box turtle.
One of the kindest people I know and a dear friend, Micheal Murdoch stop by with just harvested local blackberries and blueberries.
Michael's farm, Ocean Natural Farm is just down the road from here and is a Certified Naturally Grown farm that certifies that no sprays of any kind are used, and no harmful chemicals are used. Micheal makes his own compost that he uses for fertilizer, he practices "no till" farming and he has solar panels to run the well he uses to water his plants.
Micheal is the pure definition of sustainable farming.
Thank you Micheal for providing us the cleanest LOCAL food possible!
Coming soon to a local market near you: Certified Naturally Grown watermelons! I will have 5 seedless types and one traditional type.
Today I worked on my tomato plants. This gave me an opportunity to prune and add supports to the plants.
While pruning some plants I discovered the tomato hornworm eggs. I carefully removed them but it was interesting to see that they also laid eggs on my wooden plant label
Watermelons are blooming early this year! We have high hopes for a good season.
New cucumbers looking good.
Join us for a Renewable Energy Symposium
Earth Week, 04.20.2023 from 1PM to 6PM at Carteret Community College (CCC) in Joslyn Hall.
This is a special opportunity to learn more about renewable energy like solar and wind. This symposium is free to CCC students and the public and sponsored by CCC, the Croatan Group of the NC Sierra Club and NC Interfaith Power and Light.
We are so lucky to have Martha Kenworthy and Regina Newton tend bees at our farm. Almost all vegetables need insects to pollinate them to have fruit. Honey bees and native bees are very good pollinators.
Good morning everyone. Just wanted you to know that the Market at Cedar Point and the Beaufort Community Market have our fresh picked and delicious asparagus. And, of course, it is Certified Naturally Grown!
Nature has a way of healing itself and such is the case for asparagus. The hard freeze was a setback but in a few days or a week, I expect to have Certified Naturally Grown asparagus available.
Hello everyone. I have not posted anything about Ocean Natural Farm for a variety of reasons but with all the warm weather, and with the arrival of some of my seed orders, I am beginning to start planting some seeds, and with that comes my hope for a brighter and healthier future.
Because I have not posted much, it doesn't mean that I have not been busy.
Here are some pictures from over the last four months.
