DUMONO
A Paradigm Shift to Living Small

Featuring our entry for BeeBreeder's MICROHOME 2020 Competition. We are honored and humbled to be included in the shortlist and was selected for ARCHHIVE BOOKS publication!

DUMONO is an entirely off-grid 25sqm home designed for a young professional couple. Taking maximum advantage of the finite space with environmentally responsive design is the main challenge.

The house is composed of two prefabricated modular blocks arranged alternately to arrive with rhythmic play in mass linked by a small courtyard. The entire floor is raised above ground with ten sectional frames and sliding wall panels to allow various space configurations conforming to the ever-changing needs of its users. The space underneath is accessible for utilities and storage. Modular furnitures were also introduced to fully optimize the space.

Each modular block is designed with carefully placed fenestrations for natural ventilation and daylighting. It has a trapezoidal roof with operable windows to allow access to the deck that serves as viewing platform, extension of the garden, and place for solar panels.

Dressed in bamboo cladding, DUMONO harmoniously blends with its surrounding highlighting its natural and muted aesthetic.

This intimate space of master bedroom was designed with comfort and luxury through simple materials – wooden floor and concrete render finished wall, with suitable selection of furniture and decor.

Placing the bed in the middle creates an interesting space from its rear a walk-in-closet accessed through glass sliding doors. As the design progressed, we tweaked it to concealed doors upon request of the owner to make the room appear larger and ensure clutters from the walk-in-closet won't be seen.

The ground floor of SN House is a one uninterrupted space dedicated largely to the living area. This is where we realized how much the family values quality time.

In contrast to the exterior, the living area embraces the white walls with strategically placed large windows to achieve a light, airy, and welcoming comfort of home accentuated by wood.

This is a facade visualization of a small family house in Laguna - SN House.

With bold preference on finishes, the entire exterior wall is painted in dark grey with continuous horizontal grooves contrary to the white massive frame defining the character of the house. These monochromatic finishes are complemented by natural texture of wood brise soleil.
