We do most of our grocery shopping in Hermantown between Walmart and Sam’s Club. Sunday night we picked up our weekly order. The total impact the Hermantown Community Recreation Initiative will have on our grocery bill is $0.00. As illustrated on this actual receipt we received after picking up our order Sunday night, the total tax is $0.00. Sales Tax does NOT apply to groceries, clothing, gas, or automobile purchases.
I would have gladly paid an extra $0.50 to fund three incredible initiatives for the community. The opportunity in this program is that 75% of the Sales Tax that is collected in Hermantown comes from non-residents. We are utilizing regional resources to enhance the recreation spaces in our community.
Join your friends and neighbors in voting YES, YES, & YES on all three initiatives November 8th.

A new turf field will maximize the small window for spring sports and allow greater access during wet summer months. In addition to a turf field, our reimagined park includes improvements to the concession area, playground, basketball courts, and skate park. Making improvements to the park will provide access to our entire community as well as connections to the new trail system.
Voting Yes to ALL THREE questions on November 8th will help positively impact the community of Hermantown.
This community-driven initiative will be largely funded by people OUTSIDE of Hermantown. The University of Minnesota recently completed a local sales tax study and determined that less than a quarter of all the annual sales tax revenue in Hermantown is generated by Hermantown residents.
This means that at least 75% of the funding for these improvements would come from outside of the Hermantown community. The temporary sales tax increase in Hermantown would then equal the sales tax in Duluth until the initiative is funded.

We desire a comprehensive and accessible trail system for biking, walking, and running that connects key Hermantown locations and extends beyond the city’s borders through connections to other St. Louis County trail systems. Providing trails in Hermantown brings our recreation opportunities away from busy roads and into nature.
Vote YES, YES, & YES to help bring interconnectedness to our community with new trail systems.
Citizens of Hermantown have been working towards getting this initiative on the ballot for over 10 years. Members of our community have been rallying together for the past decade to bring regional support for our growing community. This non-governmental, community-driven initiative will make our community healthier by creating a more robust trail system, improving Fichtner Park, and expanding our hockey arena.
This initiative will be funded through a temporary 0.5% sales tax, NOT a property tax, and over 75% of the initiative will be funded by non-Hermantown residents. Join us in voting YES, YES, & YES to help the community of Hermantown flourish.

An arena addition will not only positively impact those that use the arena, but also the entire community. Restaurants, hotels, and other industries will benefit from the expansion as well, which will improve the economy as a whole.

A hockey arena expansion will ensure equality for both boys and girls teams. With an additional arena, boys and girls teams can play in Hermantown. There will also be greater access to ice time for community members of all ages.

What is our community saying?
The Tomassoni's say that "This initiative is all about our children and future generations...the facility upgrades not only impact our children, but will lead to a healthier Hermantown community."
An arena addition will enable more kids in our community to play hockey. There are currently 350 kids across 30 teams who use 1 sheet of indoor ice, which necessitates using ice time at arenas beyond St. Louis County. An additional arena will provide better opportunities for families in Hermantown.
