Can’t wait to see this room full of smiling faces! 💫
Chandelier with a huge 🔮 crystal ball shining bright on the Variety Theater lobby. It’s so pretty!!!🤩
I painted this giant 🧿 in November because I was running out of time to finish the Pyrgi-inspired mural, the temperature was dropping and the sun was hiding. I also wanted to ask the universe for some extra good vibes for the project. As far as good luck charms go, I think it’s working. This week we won approval for several variances from the Cleveland Board of Zoning Appeals, including the right to use the theater for entertainment because in 2007 it was rezoned and entertainment is no longer considered a legal use of the property. So yeah, getting approval for that variance is EVERYTHING. There are more mountains to climb to get this theater going. Here’s to believing in the unseen and having faith over fear🧿💖🍀. Keep going!!!
Thank you for this precious relic. Daydreaming about future shows at the Variety during this never ending January…who do you wanna see on the Variety’s stage?👐🏼💫🎟️
It’s the Variety’s birthday month! The theater opened on November 24, 1927. Thank you to Matt Lambros for capturing the beauty and rich history of the Variety Theater in his book 💕🧿🫶🏼
Our neighbors and friends at the Eastman Campus celebrated their grand re-opening after a 2-year closure and renovation. The children’s reading nook has a Variety marquee!!!! Seriously, the coolest shout out EVER🥹💖🙏🧿
Towards the end of WWII, my grandfather Vangelis Flamos immigrated (illegally btw) to the USA from Chios, Greece. The story goes that he escaped in the night from Mersinidi beach and swam to Turkey, making his way to Alexandria, Egypt and eventually to Canton, Ohio. He was an entrepreneur and so is my dad and my sister Emily - I think we get that 🔥 from him and we’re continuing to pursue the dreams he had for himself and his descendants. For the past month, I’ve been painting these designs inspired by Pyrgi, Chios on the window boards at the Variety, finally putting my hands on this building and doing something to make it look better. I’ve met so many neighbors and made meaningful connections. And in this slow, often scary, process of restoring this huge building, it’s the small things like this mural project that ground me and remind me of my why.
Painting with words today and paying tribute to one of my anchors, the father and best friend of my husband, grandfather to my kids and stranger to no one. We love you forever and ever Mark McEwen. RIP. 💖🧿🌏✨✨✨✨

The Variety Theater was awarded State Historic Tax Credits! Got this news after returning from visiting family in Chios, Greece, and side trip to Turkey to the 2300 year old ancient theater at Ephesus. I’m reminded how important it is to preserve our built history, while also making space for people to celebrate the arts TOGETHER. We need places to dance and sing!!! The theater at Ephesus still welcomes audiences, and the Variety Theater will too, soon!!! 🧿🙏🥹
