Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan vowed Pakistan can beat any team in the Twenty20 World Cup semi-finals after they romped into the last four with another clinical win over Namibia on Tuesday.
“When you start your tournament against a big team [India] and then you win that game, then everything comes in your dressing room.”
Malik, whose tennis star wife Sania Mirza is from India, refused to comment on their arch-rival’s abysmal show in the event, saying “we are focused on our own performance and not looking around.”
Malik praised the intensity in the set-up.
“Obviously when you start the tournament, the goal is to give your best shot as a team,” he said.
“But since I’ve joined the team, I’ve seen Pakistan teams practise sessions and the way they have been dealing with pressure from the world until now, it’s been exceptionally well,” he added.
Pakistan have never played a Twenty20 International against Namibia while they won the only ODI between the two sides in the 2003 World Cup (50 overs) with a 171-run margin in South Africa.
But Malik said Namibia, who qualified from the first round and have beaten Scotland, will not be taken lightly.
“To be honest, we are not thinking any different because T20 format is where you can’t take the opposition lightly,” he said. “And we are fully confident, so we are looking forward to the game.”
Pakistan have played the same eleven in all three games but considering a relatively easier opponent, ranked 15th in the world in the format, they could rotate their side.
Malik admitted bio-secure confinement for the players in the Covid-19 restriction is a challenge.
“Bubble life, it’s a tough thing, especially when you’re like playing a lot of back-to-back series,” he said.
“And being in a bubble, it’s not an easy thing to go through. But the good thing is that our families are with us. We’ve been spending a lot of time together as families, as teammates. So it’s a good thing. But when your goal is to achieve something in life, then you have to go through hard yards, and we have that in our minds. And we are only focused on this particular tournament. And some have started enjoying the bubble life as well.”
Punjab govt releases more than 800 TLP workers days after agreement
Social media had a lot to say after New Zealand thrashed Twenty20 World Cup favourites India by eight wickets on Sunday to leave Virat Kohli's men facing a desperate struggle to reach the semi-finals.
Put in to bat, India's rejigged top order wilted in no time and the 2007 champions crawled to 110-7 in 20 overs in the Super 12 match.
Trent Boult took 3-20 and Ish Sodhi returned 2-17 in New Zealand's disciplined bowling display even though they spilled a couple of catches.
Daryl Mitchell made a fluent 49 and skipper Kane Williamson remained not out on 33 as New Zealand triumphed with 33 balls to spare to bounce back from the defeat by Pakistan in their tournament opener.
Fans who had been hoping to see the Indian team revive their World Cup campaign today, after their crushing 10-wicket loss to Pakistan last Sunday, used social media to express their disappointment and pan the Men in Blue's second successive below-par performance.
Indian author and editor Minhaz Merchant noted: "NZ actually looked a little embarrassed at winning so easily. They didn’t celebrate much. This is a broken Indian team, in morale & spirit."

Pakistan does not have a 'China debt' problem: Asad Umar on US report critical of CPEC.
Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar on Wednesday said Pakistan did not have a "China debt" problem pertaining to loan financing from the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the planning minister acknowledged that Pakistan had a debt servicing and debt sustainability challenge but stressed that "we do not have a China debt problem."
Umar was responding to a recent report by a US-based international development research lab, AidData, that was critical of CPEC.
He recalled that the report had raised four main issues about CPEC: lack of transparency, imposition of secret loans on Pakistan, loans being expensive and Pakistan's debt rising to a dangerous level because of CPEC.

PM Imran urges Bill Gates to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghan people
Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged Microsoft co-founder and billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates to consider providing humanitarian assistance to poverty-stricken people in Afghanistan.
In a telephonic conversation on Tuesday, the prime minister highlighted that more than half the population in the war-torn country was living below the poverty line and in dire need of financial assistance.
The two leaders shared their concerns regarding the health system in Afghanistan — the only other country in the world that is polio-endemic along with Pakistan, according to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
Expressing their resolve to eradicate the infectious disease from both countries, they discussed the resumption of polio campaigns in Afghanistan to secure Pakistan's recent gains in the elimination of the poliovirus.

LAHORE: With New Zealand’s last-minute abandonment of their series against Pakistan followed by England calling off their tour next month, the national team’s cricketers will now fine-tune their preparations for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup at the National T20 Cup, which has been shifted from Multan to Rawalpindi.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said Afghanistan's new Taliban rulers should understand that if they want recognition and assistance in rebuilding the war-battered country, they have to be more sensitive and more receptive to international opinion and norms.

Western nations warned their citizens on Thursday to immediately leave the surrounds of Kabul airport over a terrorist threat, as thousands of people try to reach a dwindling number of evacuation flights.
Nearly 90,000 Afghans and foreigners have fled Afghanistan via the US-led airlift since the Taliban took control of the country on August 15.
Huge crowds are gathered in and around the airport, becoming increasingly desperate as some foreign nations cease flights ahead of Tuesday's deadline by US President Joe Biden to end the evacuations and withdraw the US troops overseeing it.
The US government and its allies raised the alarm further on Thursday with a series of coordinated and specific advisories for their citizens to avoid the airport.
“Those at the Abbey Gate, East Gate, or North Gate now should leave immediately,” said the US State Department, citing unspecified “security threats”.
Australia's department of foreign affairs said there was an “ongoing and very high threat of terrorist attack”. “Do not travel to Kabul Hamid Karzai International Airport. If you're in the area of the airport, move to a safe location and await further advice.”
London issued a similar warning, adding “if you can leave Afghanistan safely by other means, you should do so immediately”.
One reason for the hard deadline cited by Biden and his aides this week was an “acute” terrorist threat from the regional chapter of the Islamic State (IS) group.
