The government of Abiy Ahmed Ali continues its barbaric crime against Orthodox Christians in the Amhara region with no impunity from the international community. On February 29, Abiy Ahmed Ali's forces massacred eleven (11) students of the St. Gabriel Church's Traditional School of Spiritual Poetry in a province called Chacha. The same vicious force murdered Father Yared by firearm, a priest and secretary of the Kidane Meheret (Covenant of Mercy) church in the city of Bahir Dar on March 1, after forcing him out of his residence.

EOTC TV reported that four monastics of the renowned Zequala monastery in the Eastern province of Shoa have been killed by the so-called "Oneg Shenei" - an extremist & self-acclaimed "Oromo Liberation" militant - today, Feb. 22, 2024. The same extremist militant faction abducted three monastics a couple of days ago. The victims of this terroristic attack are, Aba Teklemariam Asrat - pastor of the monastery, Aba Kidane Mariam Tilahun - secretary of the monastery, Aba Gebremariam Abebe - Instructor and liturgist of the monastery and Aba Hailemariam - a beginner monastic father.
The monastery has been looted and vandalized several times recently by these militant terrorists - yet the government, as in many other instances of attacks against Orthodox Christians, failed to provide security and protection.
Millions of the faithful have been exiled from the Oromia region, and thousands have been killed because of their Orthodox faith, in what appears to be a genocidal ideology of 'cleansing' Oromia.

The annual feast of the Baptism of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC) in Addis Ababa and throughout the country is going to be celebrated this year under the cloud of persecution. His Grace Archbishop Abune Abraham revealed that the government is trying to put conditions - which amount to direct meddling in the Church's affairs - for the peaceful celebration of this national and international feast. Millions of Orthodox Christians are living under a modern-day persecution unparalleled anywhere in the world at present. The world has turned a blind eye to the killing and displacement of hundreds of thousands of the faithful. The motivation behind all these has been very clear by now - it is a state-sponsored systematic cleansing of Orthodoxy and its heritage - and it has been happening for the last six years.

Eleven Orthodox Christians who were taken captive by armed groups on their way back from a pilgrimage to Qulbi Gabriel had been reportedly released and reunited with their families. Five Orthodox pilgrims had been killed by the same armed group in the Oromia region. Killings, kidnappings, and intimidation of Orthodox Christians in the Oromia region have been happening more frequently in recent months. No one had been accountable for such acts of terror.

A member of the Ethiopian Prosperity Party and an associate of the Oromia government's Communication office, Nigatu Tolosa Gonfa, openly called for ethnic violence against "the relatives of Abune Lukas and the likes of his supporters." He falsely accused the bishop of openly speaking about 'his hatred for ethnic Oromos' in a malicious mischaracterization of what His Grace Abune Yishaq said about Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. In his call for violence against what is believed to be against Orthodox Christians, including ethnic Oromos, He said, "Cleansing (them) from Oromia region is a must campaign."

The atrocity against Orthodox Christians continues unabated in the Oromia region. In the evening hours of September 26, 2023, in a district of Arsi, armed militiamen killed the wife and child of the local church head priest. Several other members of the clergy and the faithful have been killed on the same night by these armed criminals. The names of those killed are Teacher Dawit Getachew, Abeje Kebede, Moges Kinfe, Mersha, Shimelles Tesfaye, Emebeth Seme, Buruk, and Father Zerihun.
Several others have sustained severe injuries.
The blood of Orthodox Christians is flowing like a river of water, and the local government and authorities have turned a blind eye to these atrocities, and are often collaborators of such heinous and barbaric acts.
