Derby Youth Strike 4 Climate

Derby COP26 Coalition has written an open letter to Participants at COP26 talks in Glasgow. We will be sending this letter to the press in Derby on Wednesday or Thursday. If you would like your organisation's name added to the list of supporters, please let us know.

OPEN LETTER TO COP26 PARTICIPANTS

The COP26 talks happening in Glasgow come on the back of 25 years of talks that have failed to address climate change. We are now deep in a climate emergency and if our leaders do not ACT NOW, our world faces climate catastrophe in a matter of decades. For some in the Global South, the catastrophe is already here.
We call on global, national and local leaders to take the threat of climate catastrophe seriously and take real and effective action and for the rich nations to work with and support those in the Global South to achieve this. We support the Derby March and Rally in Derby on 6th November as part of the COP26 Coalition Global Day of Action for Climate Justice. The March assembles at 11am, Derby Council House and we encourage all to attend.

Inspirational and fantastic! Sometimes it can feel like we are quite small in Derby but we are part of something much bigger. Does anyone want to organise an event for 13th March or shall we concentrate on the global strike in April? Perhaps we can get together in a café sometime to plan? Message if you think this is a good idea.

What a fantastic day - up to 300 people of all ages outside Derby Council House in support of school student's strike. Here are a couple of pics - Loud and lively march round Derby too. The best speakers were school students - many from primary schools!

Last year, school students led the way in calling for urgent action on climate change. Today, voted to support them.

The trade union movement will support the fight against climate change to help protect the planet for our children and grandchildren. And we’ll stand up for workers to make the transition to a greener economy a just one that puts working people at its heart.
