Although people of color make up 40% of the US population, they account for only 18% of US House top staffers and only 11% of US Senate top staff according to the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies.

There’s a long history of discrimination and exclusion of people and staff with disabilities on Capitol Hill–something that absolutely must be named and addressed as a part of our work to transform how we see DEIB in government spaces.
An understanding of DEIB is important for governments internally in how they run their offices, and externally in how they develop equity-based policies.
