LAGU, by Caïnan Dawn 13/10/2022

Hello friends,
Things have been quiet since the release of Phantoms Received. Thank you to all who bought and listened to it. It has afforded me a new piece of gear which has opened new sonic terrain to explore. In between current writing sessions, I have been enamored with the newest release from Caïnan Dawn. It's a superb offering of atmospheric black metal done with style and grace.

Side Line Magazine had some nice things to say about Phantoms Received. What is your favorite track off the album?

REVIEW

Apocryphos – Phantoms Received (Album – Chamber)

Genre/Influences: Dark-Ambient, Cinematic.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Robert C. Kozletsky strikes back under the Apocryphos moniker, unleashing the fourth solo-album of this project. The work appears to be inspired by inner demons resulting in six tracks.

Content: The album sounds like a perfect match between Cinematic- and Dark-Ambient music. The dark atmosphere is the common thread between all cuts and even moves into a Ritual approach on one of the songs. Linear, Industrial-like, percussion can be noticed as well.

+ + + : This album has been meticulously conceived. I really enjoy the mix of influences together with the way the tracks are evolving. This is probably the best Apocryphos work I’ve heard thus far. There’re great pieces like “A Phantom Received” and “Uråldrig Sorg”, but there also is an exceptional cut entitled “Child Of The Charnel House” for its Ritual touch on top. This is a styled piece of sonic darkness.

- - - : The last track is the only one that left me a bit unmoved. I can’t say it sounds as an antithesis to the other cuts, but you’re not getting a big climax at the end.

Conclusion: Apocryphos strikes back with a bang; this is a poignant Cinematic/Dark-Ambient production.

Best songs: “Child Of The Charnel House”, “A Phantom Received”, “Uråldrig Sorg”.

Rate: 8½.

Robert is back with his 4th full length album, Phantoms Received. A deep guitar pedal fueled journey through ethereal soundscapes.

You stare into the mirror and something looks back. It’s not your normal reflection, but some maddening phantom of yourself. The chaos of life rings true in every facet of your daily musings. Your phantom's eyes reflect this and there is a permeating sorrow swimming in the irises. Life, death, happiness, sadness…all links in the same chain that is swinging from the phantom's neck. Will you dance the sickening waltz to the human experience?

I'd like to introduce to everyone the newest addition to our tribe, Dimitri Euronymous Kozletsky. He's a charming little dude with a great personality, even for a pup of his kind. Mika will show him the ropes and help guide him into adulthood. I guess I'll need to have two shadow pups on future artwork.

It should be no surprise that I'm a huge fan of all things dark and dreary. One of my favorite artists who aided me in my self-discovery in the mid 2000s that led me to Apocryphos.

Atrium Carceri & Kammarheit presents us Colossus, a dark cavernous ambient album exploring forgotten civilizations deep underground. Dirty tape reels, analogue electronics, throbbing pulses and massive reverbs combine for an environmental soundscape that will drag you down into its depths.

"How easy it is to sleep here, each dream interwoven with the hushed singing of the fortress. Each memory quietly entombed within the black stone."

Say hello to Mika, the inspiration behind the pup in the Against Civilization artwork. She had a big day yesterday getting a massive tumor removed from her shoulder that was causing her pain. Rest easy now, pup. We got that nasty thing out of you and today's pain will be tomorrow's gain. 🥰🐕

My new album Perengrination is still underway, so in the meantime, here is Against Civilization. Released just before our current plague state started. It's still available, along with Stone Speak, over at Cryo Chamber. My first album The Prisoner's Cinema is still available through Cyclic Law.

Finally, we see Robert C. Kozletsky return with a dreary and guitar driven follow up to 2016's Stone Speak. Against Civilization is where Robert takes a different sonic path. Vastly different from past releases, but still wrapped in the solemn sound Apocryphos is known for.

Civilization is a curse. Your head hangs heavy in the windowpane as you gaze upon the dregs of society. It soon collapses and nature turns feral. Those desperate to cling to their hollow idols fall silent, eyes sunken. They are not there. They have abandoned us. They are against civilization...

Features stark and captivating artwork by Erik Osvald and a 12 page booklet with extended artwork and text emphasizing the turmoil within the music. Close friend and fellow collaborator Pär Bostrom (Kammarheit, Cities Last Broadcast, Hymnambulae) makes an appearance on two tracks.

Hey everyone! Long story short, I lost control of my Apocryphos page due to Facebook deleting my previous profile that was linked as a moderator. I was tired not having a dedicated page to my music, so I made a new page in hopes to gather my audience back. Much appreciated.
