Mission: “To provide compassionate and accessible healthcare to every Filipino in the spirit of leadership, friendship, and service.”
Vision: “Hope in difficult times - the APO lifeline”
APO Telemed will temporarily stop operation due to the decrease in the number of infected cases and the number of patients and consults.
The reason why telemed was conceptualized was the surge in covid cases with health care personnel and facilities unable to cope up with number of patients.
With the continuous decline in the number of patients seeking online consultation now, with the transition back into the traditional face-to-face clinical consultations, it was decided to rest for a while.
Currently, we have recorded approximately 1320 patients since we started operating in April 22, 2021.
We would like to thank all our hardworking volunteer Doctors, Nurses, Admin IT, Supplies and Communication staff for their dedication and hard work.
Above all thank you very much to all our donors for their assistance during this extremely difficult time in our lives. It is greatly appreciated.
APO Telemedicine team will TEMPORARILY BE OFFLINE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Rest assured it will be back anytime the NEED ARISES. Stay safe brothers!

DOH says country has ready response for monkeypox:
Refusing to be caught flat-footed, the Department of Health (DOH) and its partners have been preparing for the monkeypox virus ever since an uptick in cases was reported in other countries in May 2022.
This, as World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has declared monkeypox to be a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).
Following the declaration, WHO also issued temporary recommendations (TRs) to guide the response of countries around the world that might be affected by the virus.
For countries like the Philippines with no history of monkeypox in humans, some of the guidelines include the following: activate multi-sectoral coordination mechanisms for readiness and response, to stop human to human transmission; avoid stigmatization and discrimination against any individual or population group that may be affected, to help prevent further undetected transmission.
“The DOH is currently working with local civil society organizations, community-based groups, social hygiene clinics and advocates to properly communicate the risk of monkeypox transmission among certain population groups without stigma,” she pointed out.
“This is consistent with the evidence that anyone can get monkeypox, and we must all work together to prevent not just the disease but also stigma that may cause undetected transmission,”Vergeire stressed.

How can I keep from getting COVID-19?
The best defense to prevent getting COVID-19 is to get vaccinated. You should also follow the same steps you would take to prevent getting other viruses, such as the common cold or the flu.

Public Health Alert and Advisory - Monkeypox
We still don't know exactly how long protection from COVID-19 vaccines lasts, but most people have strong protection against serious illness and death for at least 6 months.
What is a COVID-19 vaccine booster?
A COVID booster shot is an additional dose or doses of a vaccine given after the protection provided by the original shot(s) has begun to decrease over time. The booster helps people maintain strong protection from severe coronavirus disease.

WIll there be another new COVID-19 variant after omicron and the BA.2 variant?
There is still potential for the novel coronavirus to mutate into a new coronavirus variant, an infectious disease expert recently told the Deseret News.
“COVID-19 is an evolving virus, and like any other virus it has a tendency to mutate,” Quigley said. “So long as there are accessible hosts (unvaccinated) where the virus can replicate there will be the continued risk of future mutations and hence new variants,” he added.
“It is hoped that any new variant does not cause new disease and/or make the existing vaccines ineffective.”

What is a COVID-19 vaccine booster?
A COVID booster shot is an additional dose of a vaccine given after the protection provided by the original shot(s) has begun to decrease over time. The booster helps people maintain strong protection from severe coronavirus disease.
Why do I need a booster, since the COVID-19 vaccines are effective?
The protection offered by the FDA-approved and authorized vaccines is very powerful, but it starts to weaken after five months. Getting a booster shot extends the protection, even against the delta and omicron variants.
Two studies released by the CDC (one conducted April–December 2021 and the other from August 2021–January 2022) show that being fully vaccinated plus receiving a booster provides greater protection from severe disease, hospitalization and death due to COVID-19 compared to only being fully vaccinated. A third study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, shows similar results. The research also indicates that the booster offers greater protection against the delta and omicron variants than being fully vaccinated or not vaccinated at all.
The CDC recommends that people who are vaccinated get a booster dose when they are eligible, and that they stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations.

How can you lower your risk of catching COVID-19 when going grocery shopping?
Source: World Health Organization
Ventilation is the process of bringing fresh, outdoor air inside and letting indoor air outside in order to maintain or improve air quality.
The risk of getting COVID-19 infection is increased in crowded and poorly ventilated settings. This is because the virus passes between people through infected respiratory particles in the form of droplets and aerosols. In poorly ventilated spaces infected aerosols can remain suspended in the air or travel farther than conversational distance. Improving indoor ventilation reduces the risk of the virus spreading indoors.
The IATF has placed the National Capital Region under COVID-19 Alert Level 2 beginning Tuesday, February 1, 2022.
A decrease in number of cases and patients from last week.
May we continue to stay informed and follow public health advice for the safety of everyone.
