Sculpting, Costume & Masks Workshop - With Lani Hernandez-David.
Come along for a hands-on workshop around sculpting and mask-making with the extremely talented Lani Hernandez-David, who has worked on such productions as Gladiator 2 & Game Of Thrones.
At this workshop, youâll have the unique opportunity to learn directly from Laniâs vast experience in the industry. We will delve into the wealth of knowledge Lani has gained over his years within the industry.
Participants will discover the intricacies of mask-making, costume design, and sculpting, gaining hands-on experience with professional techniques and materials.
Youâll discover the secrets behind creating breathtaking pieces that capture the imagination and bring stories to life.

An Evening with Adeel Amini.
Join us on the 17th of October to hear from Adeel Amini, the Head of Entertainment and Executive Producer at Rumpus Media. With over 16 years of industry experience, Adeel will share insights into his career and the knowledge he has gained during his time in the industry.
Adeel Amini is Head of Entertainment & Executive Producer at Rumpus Media, with 16 years of experience in the industry. He has worked on shows such as Catchphrase, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, The Last Leg, Alan Carrâs Chatty Man / Specstaculars and many more. During his time at Objective Media Group, Adeel both developed and produced Lingo (ITV), Lingo US with RuPaul (CBS), and Alan Carrâs Picture Slam (BBC One).
He is also the founder of the pan-industry working group Coalition For Change, a board member for Screen Yorkshire, & an elected member of the BAFTA TV committee. In 2018 Adeel formed what is now known as The TV Mindset, a mental health support group for freelancers based on his own experiences in the industry. While initially a peer-support group, the TV Mindset has evolved into a platform for freelancers to share their issues while also advocating for constructive change, reaching over 20,000 members across all platforms. The name is now recognised in the industry as a force for change and helps advise and inform policies of key players and institutions.

The Five Minute Film Club: Theme - Horror.
6 PM Onwards - Wednesday The 30th Of October.
With Halloween approaching, this monthâs theme is horror. We canât wait to see what you all come up with.
The Five rules are:
1. Rule of the month: Horror.
2. Cannot exceed Five Minute Runtime.
3. Does not have to be made with professional filmmaking equipment. The purpose of
this competition is to have fun and encourage collaboration.
4. Must be submitted by midnight on the 29th of October. via:

5. The competition is open to anyone, regardless of location.
All entries will be screened at the stockroom cinema on the 30th of October from 6 pm onwards. Once all films have been screened voting will take place - after which a winner will be announced.

Waqar Shah is a South Yorkshire Q***r sound recordist & sound editor with a wealth of over 8 years of experience in fiction & factual productions. Having worked on a plethora of projects we are thrilled to have Waqar at The Unit.
Waqar will be leading a sound recording session for those interested in sound recording, sound editing, or anyone looking to enhance their skills in various departments within a film.
No prior experience is necessary, and Waqar will demonstrate the use of industry-standard equipment, providing insight on how to kickstart your career in sound.

Thursday 3rd September - Stop Motion Animation with Virpi Kettu.
Virpi will discuss her remarkable career and expertise in stop-motion animation, followed by a workshop focusing on armature and rigging.
Virpi is a Director, Animator, Consultant and Educator living in Skipton, North Yorkshire.
Over her 20-year-long career in the film industry, she has also animated for on the Oscar-winning animated feature film Wallace and Gromit in âThe Curse of the Were-Rabbitâ as well as âShaun the Sheepâ and âCreature Comfortsâ.
She has also worked with several other worldwide-known companies such as Universal Pictures, The National Film Board of Canada and BBC.
Her work includes commercials for H&M and Dyson, and she has recently collaborated with NHS with an infomercial and an academic study about Animation and interactive games as an educational tool.
She has created music videos for Father John Misty, RTJ, Radiohead and most recently superstar Katy Perry.
Her current project is Dogsâ Dales. This is a fun Animated TV series story and an Augmented Reality (AR) mobile application game linked to the story: âDogsâ Dales ARâ. It is about dogs and mythical local folklore legends in Yorkshire Dales, that can be experienced in Skipton and other Yorkshire Dales towns in the UK.

The Five Minute Film Club theme is⌠Cinematic Siblings.
Throughout the decades, there have been numerous sets of sibling filmmakers, ranging from the Coen Brothers to the Wachowski Sisters.
Drawing inspiration from these cinematic siblings, we are excited to see the films you create for this months 5MFC.
Need inspiration? Weâve got you covered. We will be posting a pair of cinematic siblings every week leading up to the 5MFC screening.

Andrew is an award-winning UK film and television director and producer, known for directing shows such as Doctor Who, Life On Mars, Waterloo Road, and Green Wing.

Coming from an early background in cinematography he has directed some of the most high-profile dramas of recent years. In 2020 he completed several episodes and the finale of the highly anticipated female-led teen thriller Get Even, for Netflix and BBC.
Andrew has worked with some of the UKâs most acclaimed actors including John Simm in the Emmy-winning and BAFTA-nominated Life on Mars, Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Sophie Okonedo in Doctor Who, David Morrissey, Harry Treadaway and Felicity Jones in Cape Wrath, Stephen Tomkinson and Hayley Mills in Wild at Heart, not to mention Olivia Colman, Liz White, Andy Serkis and Ian Hart.
Andrewâs passion for compelling performance and potent visual storytelling is apparent from his exceptionally crafted episodes for Netflix, BBC, Channel 4 and ITV and his work on hit shows such as Survivors, Primeval and the BAFTA-winning sitcom Green Wing starring Stephen Mangan and Tamsin Greig, for which he created the signature visual style.
His âCamberwick Greenâ episode of the Emmy-winning Life on Mars delighted fans and attracted exceptionally high viewing figures.
For Matt Smithâs first outing as Doctor Who, Academy Award nominee Sophie Okonedo joined Andrew in one of two gripping and critically praised episodes. Audience favourite Victory of the Daleks made British television history with the inception of the brand-new âĂźberâ Daleks.
