Trivandrum central prison staff allegedly pour hot water over inmate resulting in serious burns
Delhi: Shafi Usama, an alleged ISIS terrorist, also known as Muhammad Shanawaz, who had been the subject of an extensive search by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), was apprehended in Delhi. Shanawaz, a fugitive wanted by the NIA with a reward of Rs 3 lakh on his head, was captured while in hiding. An engineer by profession, he had previously been arrested in Pune but had subsequently escaped to Delhi, where he was eventually apprehended by local law enforcement.
The NIA had issued a reward of Rs 3 lakh for information leading to the arrest of Shanawaz and three other suspected terrorists. In a significant development, Shanawaz was taken into custody.
It has come to light that a significant number of individuals are linked to the ISIS module in Pune, Maharashtra. Numerous arrests were made in connection with this module by various law enforcement agencies last month. The NIA's investigations have revealed that these individuals were allegedly involved in activities aimed at spreading terror and violence with the objective of establishing the Islamic State. As part of these operations, several individuals were detained, and incriminating documents and other materials were discovered during a search of the residence of Shamil Saquib, who is currently under arrest.
In a recent address at a book launch event in the capital city of Delhi, AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, shared his insights on Rahul Gandhi's victory in Wayanad and the political landscape in India. He remarked, "The reason for Rahul's victory in Wayanad is attributed to the presence of the Congress' ally in Kerala, the Muslim League. Despite his loss in Amethi, Rahul emerged victorious in Wayanad primarily due to the support of the Muslim League. It was indeed the Muslim League that extended a lifeline to Rahul's political career."
Furthermore, Owaisi addressed concerns about his party's stance on alliances, stating, "Some have suggested that if we align ourselves with the INDIA alliance, we may not secure Hindu votes. However, I wish to clarify that this concern does not deter us. Our decision to abstain from the INDIA alliance is rooted in ideological differences. We firmly believe that they lack the courage to confront the ideological underpinnings of the BJP. Our party is resolute in its decision not to be part of the INDIA alliance, and we are unwavering in our commitment. I must emphasize that our party would face suffocation within such an alliance."
In conclusion, Asaduddin Owaisi's remarks shed light on the role of the Muslim League in Rahul Gandhi's electoral success in Wayanad and his party's steadfast ideological stance regarding alliances in the Indian political landscape.
In Thiruvananthapuram, a medical student who had been under observation due to suspected Nipah infection has received a negative test result from the Institute of Virology in Khudakkal. Additionally, another individual displaying symptoms of the virus is currently under observation in Thiruvananthapuram, with expectations of receiving test results today.
The 72-year-old resident of Kattakada had close relatives visit from Kozhikode, who subsequently developed fever. As a precautionary measure, they were transferred to the general hospital for observation, and their samples have been sent to the Institute of Virology at Khukkakal for testing. The district health department has reassured the public that there is no cause for alarm.
To date, the state has conducted 181 tests, and the absence of new positive cases yesterday brings some relief. Five individuals exhibiting symptoms have been isolated at the medical college, one of whom is a healthcare worker. The contact tracing list now comprises 1192 individuals. All four individuals who tested positive are showing signs of improvement. The government has also expressed its intention to make compassionate decisions regarding the medical expenses of those receiving treatment in private hospitals, temporarily relieving them of financial burdens.
Meanwhile, a central team continues to operate within the district, leading to the implementation of stricter restrictions, particularly in Kozhikode city. Seven wards of Kozhikode Corporation and entire wards of Farook Municipality have been designated as Containment Zones. The Beypur fishing harbor has been closed due to its location within a containment zone. The District Collector has issued a directive allowing only online classes in all educational institutions in the district until the following Saturday, with public examinations remaining unaffected.
In Kozhikode, another case of Nipah virus has been confirmed, bringing the total number of active cases in the district to six. The virus was confirmed in a 39-year-old man who had been under observation at a hospital. He had also received treatment at a private hospital where other Nipah-positive individuals had sought medical attention, prompting his inclusion in the observation list.
In response to the situation, a central team will be visiting the Nipah-affected areas in Kozhikode today. The contact tracing efforts have now extended to 950 individuals. A high-level meeting, led by ministers, is scheduled for today to discuss the ongoing developments.
As a precautionary measure, educational institutions in the district have been granted a holiday for today and tomorrow. Additionally, a separate high-level meeting, also led by ministers, is convened today to address the Nipah situation comprehensively.
Alleged terrorists are suspected to have concealed explosives at various locations in Thrissur and Palakkad districts in Kerala. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has initiated inspections in Thrissur and Palakkad as part of their ongoing investigation. Substantial evidence is being gathered, particularly in connection with Nabeel, one of the accused, who had been apprehended earlier.
According to statements provided by the accused, evidence collection efforts have been extended to Thrissur, which was identified as a focal point for a terrorist attack conspiracy and clandestine meetings. The suspect was also brought to a location where Hayat, another individual involved in the terrorist plot, was reportedly taken.
These actions by the NIA were prompted by intelligence suggesting that Malayali IS terrorists had concealed explosives within covert facilities while plotting extensive explosions across Kerala. Several arrested individuals had previously confessed to conducting test deployments of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Nabeel Ahmed, among those in custody, has been identified as a key planner of these attacks, operating under the leadership of Ashif and Shias Siddique. The NIA received information indicating the accumulation of a significant quantity of explosives for these impending attacks, prompting extensive inspections in Thrissur and Palakkad.
Further investigation by the NIA has revealed that the arrested individual, Nabeel, assumed a leadership role within the Kerala IS module following the death of Abdul Rashid Abdullah, a Malayali IS terrorist killed in an airstrike carried out by the American military. Nabeel Ahmed, also known as Nabeel, was found to have taken on the role of Kerala Ameer within the Islamic State module. The investigation team has also discovered that these terrorists conducted their communications through a virtual private network (VPN).

In an incredible bid to unravel the mystery of the nearest star, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has launched its maiden solar mission called Aditya L-1. This ambitious solar mission seeks to shed light on the Sun’s outermost layer, the Sun’s Corona, and explains the Sun’s complex activities. It aims to improve our understanding of space weather and its effects on our planet. The mission intends to address fundamental questions about the Sun's behavior, including the mechanisms that heat the corona to high temperatures and the source of solar wind.
To meet these ambitious goals, Aditya L1 boasts advanced equipment each designed for a specific segment of solar tracking. These will include the Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC), which will probe the solar corona in detail, and the Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT) to provide observations of the Sun’s chromosphere and transition zone and analysis of energy distribution. In addition, the magnetometer will measure the strength and direction of the sun’s magnetic field.
The Aditya-L1 mission is of critical importance, as the data it collects promises to refine our understanding of solar activity, and its effects that are experienced on Earth.
